'민속촌' and '민속마을' are different. Both are 'village' in English, but '민속촌' is similar to a set where no people live, and '민속마을' is a folk village where people actually live. Andong Hahoe Village is where people live, and the place you went to is where people do not live.

One of my favorite TV shows is a Korean variety show called 2 Days 1 Night. Six celebrities travel around the country, introducing different locations and local foods to the viewers. Along the way, they are given missions and play games to determine who gets to eat (or not), and who gets to sleep indoors, rather than outside in a tent. It’s hilarious. Anyway, I’ve been watching it for ten years, and somehow you have managed to show new locations that I don’t recall seeing on the show. Won really did an amazing job at suggesting unique places for you to visit.

re: your attempts to find a place for the night at the beach: In Korea, beaches are literally closed to the public and only open certain times of the year. Here in South Africa you can go to the beach whenever you want come rain come shine. One time with some friend and their smallish daughters we wanted to swim. It was a lovely and we found a lovely beach, but it was totally deserted, we could not figure out why. It was a long way to walk to the edge of the water. We were just settling down when along comes a policeman and communicated to us that the beach was closed. We were shocked as it was a hot day and we really wanted to swim. We eventually did find another beach that we could swim at. Lovely clear water!!

While not precise, if you want to get the hang of the pronunciation, try adding the letter "h" after every vowel. English vowels, a, e, i, o, with u as the exception, and pronounce them as ah (as in ah ha), eh (as in net), ih (as in he), oh (as in oh no), and u (as in moo). When you see "eo" pronounce them like uh (as in uh huh).. This will most likely get you to the closest pronunciation of Korean words as a novice learning the language. This will work most times.

Korea doesn't make cider from apples. In Korea, carbonated soda under the name cider has become synonymous. Cider such as Apple Fox or Somersby's is sold at convenience stores and supermarkets. However, if you say cider to Koreans, they will bring you carbonated soda. If you are looking for cider in Korea, it is quick to find it by product name such as Apple Fox or Somersby.
