If you are Canadian, studied and worked in 1 of 63 occupations in USMCA agreement, you can work in USA via 3-yr non-immigration TN-1 visa. TN-1 visa can be applied in USA-Canada border or at airport for about $60; it can be renewed as many times as required. Most of these occupations require a Bachelor degree. Some occupations are: engineer, registered nurse (RN), accountant, lawyer, social worker, librarian, college professor, hotel manager, and computer systems analyst. The path from TN-1 to US PR is the same as H-1B to US PR. The queue is based on your country of birth (India), not based on citizenship (Canada). For India, the queue is 10+ years for employment based (EB2 & EB3) green cards.

I can erase your doubt about USA. In USA, students with F-1 visa are not allowed to work off campus except for CPT and OPT (course related). As for on-campus jobs, it is very competitive because universities often reserve them for poor American students as part of their financial aid packages. After graduation, you have 60 days to find an employer sponsor for H-1B visa or go back home. H-1B is a 3-yr employment visa; it can be renewed once. Thus, it is 6-yr maximum. During this period, you need to apply for labor certification, proving to Labor Department that you are not stealing jobs from Americans and PRs. Once Labor Cert is approved, then you can submit your application for PR. For India, the queue for employment based (EB2 and EB3) green cards is over 10 years long and is getting longer each year. It gets complicated if you lose your job while waiting for an available green card visa.
