I'm a Canadian living in the UK, Scotland specifically, and I feel overall this video covered the comparisons well. I find the UK is cheaper for things like public travel (like trains, buses and planes), food, phone and internet plans and rent (depending where you live obviously) but find it to be more expensive for clothes, owning a car as well as the expenses that come with it and anything electronic or technology based. For example, my partner has a car and has to pay for yearly MOTs, road tax, petrol (which is close to double the price of Canada) and insurance where as when I had a car in Ontario, Canada I paid less for gas, no road tax, had a set rate for my yearly license plate sticker (which in Ontario you now no longer have to pay for) and pretty reasonable insurance. On the other side of things, travelling in Canada, as beautiful a country as it is, can be a nightmare due to the sheer size of the country and how long it takes to travel and how expensive it is because of the size. As a kid I'd only seen parts of Canada and a couple bits of the Northern US due to how expensive it can be to fly and having to drive instead. In comparison, since moving to the UK I've been able to easily and relatively cheaply travel to many other European countries and seen a lot within the UK as well. Point is, there are pros and cons to living in both countries and I could see myself bouncing between the two the rest of my life. I genuinely enjoy Canadian winters but hate the heat in the summer there, so would love to go back to Scotland in the summer for the cooler temps. Both Canada and the UK are great in their own ways and I'm lucky to get to experience both.

While born in England, I grew up in Canada. I've been back, and while I am still British in many ways, I think Canada is a better place. I live in the Yukon, which is 99% virgin wilderness. There is room to think, and play up here! I once drove 295km on the main highway, and did not see a single vehicle on the road. Of course, this was only just past half way to the nearest city (of 28,000) from where I live! If you like space around you though, Canada is the place to be.

As a Canadian I can tell you that very few people make the yearly wage you mentioned. We wish we did. Most of our houses are normal size. In B.C. a house for a family is over 1 million dollars. The houses are far from supervise. Crime is rising quickly with foreign gangs fighting for control over the illegal drug trade. Obesity is a plague in Canada. I'm dual UK/Canadian citizen. Good show-down and it's a close call. Have lived in Canada for 25 years am ready for time again in UK. Why? UK has beautiful coastline, countryside, pubs, gorgeous lanes to cycle (S Downs, N Downs) London is beyond amazing compared to all Canadian cities in terms of the sheer scale and drama of the architecture. Love the abundance of trains in UK (compared to Canada anyway!) and being so close to Europe is very cool. Mind you, I have lived the print off the map in both USA and Canada and would be sad if I hadn't. Hawaii is definitely too far from UK to visit much. Both sides of the pond have so much to offer, why settle for one when you can have both :)

Well done video. Both countries are great countries, but I pick Canada. Mostly for the same reason I returned to Halifax from Halifax--the stifling congestion. You have a slight mistake in your graphics of the currents affecting Canada, your is about 70 years out of date. The offshoot of the Labrador Current you show just off the coast of Nova Scotia does not flow like that anymore. Your population of Canada is years out of date, at the time I write this, it is 39,925,345. In southern Canada where 95% of Canadians live, the summers are considerably hotter than the UK. I'm totally jealous that Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin come from the UK.

Canada by a long shot. I've lived in both. UK is very expensive compared to Canada in practically all areas. Petrol, housing and taxes. Ripoff Britain I call it. Going out to a restaurant is expensive for mediocre food and small portions. Salaries are also very low compared to Canada in almost every job category. Housing is very expensive for flats that quite are quite small and shoddy compared to modern Canadian homes. For natural beauty it's no contest as Canada has beautiful mountains, prairies, woodlands, lakes and many other landscapes the UK doesn't. As for cities and infrastructure Canada's cities are lower density with as opposed to high density in the UK. Both have advantages and disadvantages. I love architecture so it's UK for sure. Culturally Britain has a lot to offer compared to Canada as we're a little provincial and spread out. If one had to choose for a better future for their family then it's Canada.

My Grandparents on both sides came from England. Manchester and Prestwich. They came to Montreal in 1910. I’m 62,and still in Montreal. My Granny used to refer to England as The Mother Country ( old Vicky I bet) and I still have lots of family in the UK. Grew up other bangers and mash, roast beef and Yorkshire on Sundays and home made fish and chips. Lol. Even have a tea spoon from the visit, in 1939 of George VI and Queen Elizabeth (Queen mum) to Montreal. My grandparents were working class living in Montreal’s East End (now Hochelaga/Maisonneuve) in those flats with the outside corkscrew stairs all their friends were immigrants from the UK.

Ok. It depend on whether you're counting "the city itself" vs "the greater urban area". The City Of Toronto currently includes all the less dense "boroughs" (North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke) that have more parkland; whereas the "City Of Vancouver" does NOT include less dense bordering cities that together constitute Greater Vancouver.

So true. No comparison in the age and richness of history. My parents were married in England, at the end of WWII in a 12th century church, which simply couldn't exist in Canada. In Canada, a 150 year old house is incredibly old and in the U.K. people are renovating 15th century stables into beautiful homes. During my lifetime, the relationship between Canada and the U.K. has widened in trade and other aspects, but I believe there are many opportunities to provide greater value to one another.

I’m a Canadian raised dual US and Canadian citizen with Finn/Dane/Brit heritage. Interesting and well done. I find “quality of life” and “world happiness” comparisons odd as they vary so widely depending on who is analyzing countries. Usually on both scales I have seen, Canada is at top of both possibly following only Scandinavian countries. Having spent decades in airline management working with people from many countries I would say I would enjoy living in many countries particularly those in N. America and Europe. For climate, Britain, for culture, Britain, for the people, Canada, for economic security, Canada, for health care, Britain. For security, Canada, but the trump card is the accessibility to the wilderness and beauty of the variety of landscapes and wildlife there is nothing in the world like Canada hands down winner.

I agree with everything other than “security”. There is quite a bit more crime in Canada per capita, than there is in the U.K. For example the U.K.’s murder rate per 100,000 is 1, Canada’s is 1.95 (2020).

I live in Canada, born and raised here, and I consider myself quite fortunate to be here. It's been on my bucket list to visit the UK, and I'm finally doing it this summer. I am also looking into moving to the UK for maybe a year or so just so I can take in the whole country, the culture, etc... I have many friends and family that live there and I hear so many wonderful things about it (despite all the issues it has too)... not to mention I adore the accents. :) Unfortunately moving to the UK is difficult, even if just for a short time.

How are Canada and the United Kingdom like cousins? That is just gross. As a Canadian, the United Kingdom is our mother. Show some respect. The United States is our big brother that moved out of the home a little earlier in life, where Canada stayed at home with mum until it was time. Australia is our cousin that doesn't live nearby, but anytime we see them its good times.

I love both countries, but you can't rely on these figures for Canada because it's a big country, prices and wages in the east and the west side of the country varies hugely. Also in June 2022 gas prices jumped to over Cad $2 per liter. The video showed you big houses and average prices of $500k-700k, that's certainly NOT the case in Ontario or B.C., where single detached houses costs over $1 million, or close to $2 million Cad dollars. One bedroom condo / apartment unit now costs over $500k. Many couldn't afford to buy a home. Also Canada is not as safe as it appears, but if you avoid the public transit and not walking alone at night you would feel safe 99.9%.

I live in Seattle and visit Vancouver BC at least once a year to meet with Friends and hang out. The downside is that going between USA and Canada is practically the same culture unlike going from UK to well, anywhere in Europe. It's a pretty substantial difference. Vancouver is also very similar to Seattle with both cities surrounded by nature limiting development of housing and growth leading to high cost of living, for sure a bit more expensive in Vancouver than here in Seattle. I hope to one day visit the UK though that is #1 on my list. I was most recently in Turkey and South Korea so UK is now my #1 next on the list.

If you think that the US and Canada have "practically the same culture", you don't understand much about Canada. I spent 13 years in the US and now 30 years in Canada, and I can tell you that what people prioritize in life is VERY different. Canada is so much more European in outlook than the Excited States.

Just a corrective about describing "native" people in Canada. There are First Nations people, but they are not the main occupants of the north. The Arctic and subpolar regions are mainly home to the Inuit and Dene. There are also the Metis who represent the intermarriage of settlers and First Nations.

I lived in both countries for a while. I found UK much cheaper than Canada in case of food, travel, and clothes. My income in the UK was 15% higher than the same job in Canada. The climate in the UK is also nicer than average in Canada (not talking about Vancouver, Vancouver is great, but Winnipeg is the worst). Travel around UK as well as European countries is more convenient than travel around Canada. But I like Canadian lifestyle, ice hockey games, and the nature is beautiful.

I spent a four month long summer in England at age 8 to meet my mother's parents for the first time. I think I could live in either country without too much adjustment. Family made a choice to come to Canada and I think it was a good choice and I have no desire to call anywhere else home.
