The biggest thing you need to have a good army in a democracy is a sense of patriotism and nationality among it's citizens....These western European nations have been so afraid of nationalism since ww2 that even waving English or British flag at rallies is now seen as fascism but its ok if people are waving Palestinian or Pakistani or Khalistani flag, they call that multi-culturalism. Also if you invite everyone in your country, even those who actively hate your country and have completely different values then your country is eventually going to loose its identity.

If UK declares a war with Russia, it will find itself difficult to get volunteers. Majority of volunteers for British army come from Caucasian background, they do not consider Russia as an enemy. During recent riots many even hailed Putin as a great leader(compared to the leaders of UK, Putin is doing an amazing job) Recent imports from middle-east and pakistan will not join army, even if there is a conscription. They would prefer to spend time in prison with friends than die fighting for crusaders!

It is an indication that these countries have progressed beyond the war economy, their citizen enjoyed peace and prosperity for almost a century now, while we are still fighting for bread. Yes they won't last a war and might not have the economic might they once had but that means nothing for the day to day life of a common man, most Indians do and would continue to leave India for place in UK/US etc. India is neither too powerful a nation yet not prosperous enough to have good food safety, healthcare and education, our neighborhood curse will keep us like this for decades. We must not see this as our win but rather should introspect where should our nation head towards. This is not a criticism of India, I wish great things for my country but let's not celebrate these news ignoring our plight.

Also that “Prosperity” can disappear very easily if a powerful military force decided to attack them. UK simply dont have the resources needed to have a powerful military force and thats the hard truth. You need a powerful military not only to invade or destroy someone but also to protect yourself, otherwise you end up like ukraine , iraq or gaza.

A common man has interest in a peaceful and prosperous life, war is an anomaly. Look at almost every country in EU, Switzerland and likes, no military but a dream place to live in. I am not saying India is on the wrong track, what we are is a product of our environment, but our view of a better nation is skewed. Military power Pakistan ke paas bhi h, they got nukes, 5th gen aircraft (which could just be a paper tiger but still) yet look at how their citizen are living. A peaceful India-Pakistan relation would have helped people on both side of the border, but they chose this path and we all suffer. Again, my point is that we shouldn't be taking pride in having more military might than UK, we are comparing Apples vs Coconuts. People in India no longer respect their own land, corruption and uncivil behavior everywhere, on no parameter other than military are we doing well and we need to stop these spurts of hollow pride from making us believe that we are building a great nation, we just aren't. Our military might is a result of our disrupted neighborhood not a marvel (compare that to why US has military and you will understand my point)

People are laughing / looking down at UK as if India's better army has made India a better nation to live in than UK (or other country which doesn't have as strong an army as ours). It doesn't work that way. I don't want to be happy seeing UK's falling military might and India falling low in standard of living. Indians need to realize we have a long list of things to do before begin to compare with developed nations. Name one instance where I said military is not needed. Also I said "almost" a century, so no need to tell me that WWII happened exactly 77 years ago, that is an implied approximation I assume.
