One of my favorite movies of all time. I’ve searched for it on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon prime...to no avail. I even bought the dvd but it was the European version so I couldn’t watch it!!

Disagree with amirtoma. I remember this film from tv many years ago and it was a positive experience to see it again. It deals with issues which amirtoma perhaps does not feel concern him/her. Diane Varsi creates the best character of all and there are very many good scenes and dialogues. - Thank you, uketoob!

Gary Cooper replaced Spencer Tracy in this movie, and it's a good thing he did. Even though he was 57 here (and actually looked older), Cooper was an elegant and sensitive older man, so you can see why Suzy Parker's character is drawn to him.

Finally, a female co-star who is almost as tall as Cooper is even when she's not wearing heels. Patricia Neal and Ingrid Bergman were tall also, but Suzy Parker had to have been his tallest leading lady.

The film concerns: the complexities of life, acceptance of limited happiness, family relationships (Joby and Ann's to their parents), yielding to impulses of the moment or standing firm on rational decisions regarding the future when a love affair needs it most (Ann's marriage, Joe's decision regarding him and Kate), age disparity between lovers (it really does matter - life really IS different at different ages), friendship (Ann and Kate, Ann and her brother).

@@maxinelowe6285 I do not doubt that that often happens. My own husband was 19 years my senior. But age does matter in the sense that many (probably not all) experience a different view on many things as the years go by, and physical health often changes. - I am not saying that youth is always good or preferable, in fact youth is often a difficult time.

Anyway, the film portrays age differences as something relevant, and it does it in a way which is convincing to me.
