What I find interesting about these boots is that they would have been worn on a horse with the tops either over the knee as thigh boots for protection against thorns etc or as shown with the tops folded down. It is little known these days that thigh boots were used by horse riders well in to the 19th century.

3:00 That's not fair. He just said it was done a long time ago, which could mean they were simply repaired so they would survive --- folks weren't as money-grubby as they've become in the 'antiques market' today. He contradicts himself.
