I'm not saying you need to deep clean them but at least spray them down with a hose or something to get the giant chunks of mud off.

I enjoyed this restoration video! I was however a bit disappointed that I didn’t get to see anything done to the uppers to at least spiff them up a bit. I know the point of keeping them is to preserve their “broken in” status. But some kind of tcl is in order! Maybe at least a wipe on of carnauba cream or something to shine them up or give them that factory new leather smell. Great video overall with much skilled craftsmanship!

Truly incredible. I don't think I've ever seen anyone replace a VAMP before. That's crazy. To me it says a lot about who Nick's is - they're a company that builds a boot so well, that even after destroying it, the owner would rather FIX IT, than buy a new pair, AND that Nick's stands behind their craftsman and their craftsmanship enough to make that repair. Love it 👍👍

Shoes shouldnt have arch support. That's the problem with everyone posture, stride, and pain. People for thousands of years went barefoot or had very thin shoes and people actually used all the muscles in their feet and the natural arch is there for a reason. Idiots just thought in the late 1900s it be good to make shoes that have you angled up facing forward and screw your natural stride up thinking it would be better lol. They was wrong

First off, humans have been wearing protective covering over their feet since the dawn of mankind. There were never groups of humans who walked barefoot their entire lives. Second off, when people began living past age 40, they realized that they needed better foot support in order to not be crippled in pain at age 45. This is why we have arch support, raised heels and rubber outsoles.

As a " Nick's Boots" owner, they will not replace the upper for a few reason, if it is a custom fit, the upper is specifically measured to your foot. Second, the upper has stretched to fit you. They can not just "replace" the whole boot. Third is the cost. To have them rebuilt costs 200 to 250, depending on the style of boot. Fourthly when you purchase a pair of boots like these, they will last you a life time if you take care of them properly. The pair of Nick's that I own have been resolved once and are due for a nother, typically they will last 6 to 8 years before needing a rebuild. But it also depends on what you do in them. The more you abuse them the faster they wear out.

@nickgentry6790
@nickgentry6790 2 жыл бұрын
@@kunsamasan nope there is no need to buy a new pair every time they need to be rebuilt. This design of boots have been around for possibly the last 100 years. Not much has changed with design except the introduction of the "vibram" sole. Typically the sole on these boots are flat with a lil tread. Before the use of rubber, the entire sole was made out of leather. These boots are designed and built to last the wearer a life time, as long as they are properly cared for. Cleaning any and all mud off, as mud will pull moisture out of the leather and will cause damage over a shorter time. Just like with our skin we put lotion on it to keep it soft and flexible. The same goes with the leather in the boots, you keep them oiled and clean they will stay flexible and soft. I wear my boots every day, and the days that I don't wear them I can tell and feel the difference in my feet and calves. If you get a custom fit boot, the break in time is 2 weeks, depending on who tells you what a mixture of 50/50 water and rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle, when you first wear them for the first 2 weeks spray on the 50/50 mix as much as possible, this will help break in the boots to forum to your foot and ankle. Afterwards I would then oil then up till the leather can not take anymore oil. Obenauf's heavy duty lp is the brand I use, I will not use anything else, all other "boot oils" have petroleum in them and can cause damage to the threads and leather. Remember you want to replace the natural oils that were in the leather with a natural boot oil, and Obenauf's is the only natural boot oil on the market.

@@kunsamasan why would you want to buy another pair for $600-700 when you can have them rebuilt for $200-250? Plus, there’s almost no break in time with a rebuilt boot. These are not throw away boots, these are life time boots and most of the time their handed down to the child or to someone else and they’ll wear them their whole life

I’ve got a year in my builder pros, best boots I’ve ever worn. I’ve got at least another year before I need a resole. 12 hours a day 5-6 days a week. I’m going to get another pair before they need resoled so I don’t go without and then I can rotate them properly. I do make sure to put cedar boot trees in them at the end of the day though.

@@jamesmilos9909 This was neither a restoration or a rebuild. If a wall is knocked down and you use the same stones to build it again, that's a "rebuild" If you use virtually all new stone and only put back the original coping stone, that's a new build. This doesn't detract from the skill shown here. My father was a cobbler.
