🇺🇦 Ukraine! It's time to explore the folk culture and the many ethnicities of the second-largest European country. Ukrainian culture is unique, beautiful and extremely diverse in every region it has. Quick history lesson. In the 7th century BC the Scythians controlled Ukraine and in the next century, the Greek colonies were established all around the Black Sea until the 6th century AD. Later, the Goths and the Huns swayed the rest of Ukraine, then eastern Ukraine became the centre of Old Great Bulgaria and eventually the Khazars took over everything. That is until the Early Slavs appeared and made Ukraine a key centre of East Slavic culture under the state of Kievan Rus' in the 9th century. After the Mongol invasion, though, the area was divided and ruled by many external powers including the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Austrian Empire, the Ottoman Empire, and the Tsardom of Russia. The Cossack Hetmanate emerged, but it got absorbed by the Russian Empire and then all hell broke loose. The Bolshevik victory during the Russian Revolution of 1917 made Ukraine a Socialist Republic as part of the Soviet Union in 1922. A decade later, millions of Ukrainians died in the Holodomor genocide and later during World War II, Ukraine was devastated by the German occupation. Ukraine finally gained independence in 1991, but sorrow and pain never left, for even in the 21st century Russia is still tormenting the country with war. Ending on a positive note, the Ukrainian nation is probably one of the strongest, still standing proud and it will never ever bow to anyone. 🇺🇦
From the Carpathians to Kuban and from Kyiv to Crimea, let's "unhitch the horses" as the most popular folk song suggests and let's dance all together!!! From Greece, with love.
