Notice Russia focusing from the north, they are concerned with the area cut off by the river I'm guessing.

North of the occupied territory is Kursk (biggest city in region) and Kursk power plant. All the movements to the left or to the right are inconsequential strategically for Ukraine as there’s nothing but empty fields. As to area cut off by the river, Russia held it for now, but for Ukraine the only purpose to move there is just to stretch Russia’s defensive lines, all the main objectives are on the north and in this direction invasion is completely stopped and even being repelled from northeast.
