Recent developments on Russia-Ukraine war have highlighted the evolving nature of warfare in the modern era. Ukraine, facing the constant threat of Russian aggression, has found an ingenious and cost-effective solution to counter the formidable armored might of its neighbor: cheap DIY drones. These small, seemingly inconspicuous flying devices are proving to be a David against the Goliath of advanced Russian tanks worth millions. Footage showed how T-90M tanks were targeted and taken out using low-cost, DIY drones. As we witness million-dollar tanks surrender to relatively affordable DIY drones, one can't help but questions: are these million-dollar tanks truly as powerful as they are often advertised? or could it be their power is somewhat overrated?
Join us as we delve into the dramatic battle between million-dollar tanks and cheap DIY drones, while also uncovering the secret behind its development!

Long range suicide drones. The cost is relatively small. $3000 for the engine. $3000 for the airframe. The reason under $1500. ie. Propeller, servos, computer. $100 for the explosive. That's for something with a 1000 range. To see what that means, get out a map and see what's 1000 miles from the UKR border. They can dip in and out of cloud, go at night go in a swarm. They can use phones to call to state where they are, or you even use a satelite phone. From those that are shot down, you change the route and evolve the attack. Top of the list, oil refineries and oil depots. On the jamming, the IRA terrorists were using RC controlled bombs. Then the army worked this out. They started broadcasting detonate messages from time to time, and took the terrorists out.

The Russians are using jammers. Just one problem with jammers - they broadcast for a long time, at very high power. That makes it pretty easy for me to feed the jammer's signal into a $5 phase detector and set the drone to fly at the jammer. $350,000 jammer, meet $400 drone.
@Nickle314
@Nickle314 6 ай бұрын
@@senseisecurityschool9337 Exactly. Plus there are now multiple sources of GPS signals from Russia itself, to China, the USA, Europe is moving into the space. The other one, at least for the last phase is telephone. For example, taking out a oil refinery. GPS gets you near, then it rings home with a mobile, and an operator flies the last couple of miles into the target.

I would say that the tank's operators or the operators of the invasion in general are always usually easier to target than their equipment, however...not always because their equipment may be armored, but find the weak point or if it is toting explosives and ammo that can be set off too, rendering the equipment destroyed, or if you can target crews only, go in later a recover the equipment for your cause. It's drone-zilla (Drone gurilla) warfare. Turn the enemies multi million dollar systems to your cause, modify and enhance their systems as needed to prevent the enemy from copying your tactics. tanks still serve a purpose in modern warfare, however, until reliable anti drone/ATGM technology catches up, theyre just really expensive, really big, targets. when in a war of attrition, cheap killing really expensive eventually adds up. unmanned warfare really is the future of war, and the Ukraine war has shown that its basically here already. its a bad time to be a tanker or infantryman. drone countermeasures will eventually catch up, and then those countermeasures will be countered, so on and so forth. the cycle continues.

Good afternoon. I am from Ukraine and generally agree with the author. The only thing I would like to point out is that changing the FPV frequency of the drone makes it possible to strike despite countermeasures. Now the direction of drones is very, very developed both in Ukraine and in our enemy. Don't lag behind, learn from Ukrainian officers. We are faced with the fact that our Ukrainian infantrymen, who were trained in the UK, can't apply most of the tactics taught to them by British instructors. Most of the doctrine is outdated! Even in US doctrine today small kamikaze drones are seen as a toy :) only a dozen of these toys can drive and partially kill a platoon of soldiers.

@@Willy_Tepes And armor is never 100 percent effective against any sort of ammunition it was designed to counter, not even close. If you use a tank foolishly it will be destroyed. The role of a tank on the battlefield will likely remain relevant for years to come, but how it is used will change, just as it always has. The way tanks are used today is different than the way they were used in WW2 or any other war of the distant past.

@@DaveSmith-cp5kj The thing with jamming is the same as with radar - it's an emitter. Just create a suicide drone which, once in its target area, just targets the strongest emitter (like the rockets which target radar sources), and it's good bye jammer! Or, even better, use a real rocket to destroy the jammer, then the cheap drones to do the "cleanup" once the jammer is destroyed.

@@user-lb8bg6kj9m AI object recognition can be countered. I'm not going to say how, but this technology has existed since the 90s and Russia has it as well. This is why America always has man in the middle targeting systems and never fully autonomous.

@@IgorRockt This is good in theory, but it doesn't work that way IRL. The only reason drones are active in Ukraine right now is because Russia is letting them as they are using drones of their own. Deep into Russian territory you can't get any drones to work, which is why Ukraine has been pushing so hard for manned aircraft instead of drones.

I hardly wonder why there is still no hunting drone developed? Like a hunting bird this Kind of drone could easly eliminate hundred of drones. Prepared with a firethrower or antisignal gun or most effective a easy metal component to stap the other drones out of the sky And the drones should have the Double speed and battery power and could operate from abroad. For example from a living room in central europe I am a genius :D

top armor is always much thinner than side or frontal armor. it's the weakest part of the tank. many of those dropped bombs are shaped-charge anti-armor grenades with 3-D printed fins. UKR even asked for old US cluster munitions to repurpose the submunitions for drone drops,because the bomblets are designed to penetrate top armor. "Rule of thumb" is diameter of charge is how many inches or mm of armor it can penetrate.
