Just bought a drone personally. The capability these new drones have even at a consumer level is insane. I can fly 1600 feet into the air, and get 4k ultra HD 60 fps footage of anything. With a 20km range. Drones and robotics are the future and will only further be integrated into our lives.

I believe that the Kursk offensive has been a gift to the Russians, the Russians don't need that land back, its wayyyyyyyy more important for Ukraine because of political reasons, so Russia just sits back and lets them come in waves and day after day Russia destroys some of Ukraine's best weapons with little of their own losses

Scott Ritter believes the Russians caught up, and overtook the West in drone technology is because of the Iranian’s and the Shahed drone. What is also exciting for the Russians is the Iranian latest military exercise where swarms of AI drones were deployed and controlled by a central command drone. The Russians had been talking about this idea but the Iranian’s have achieved this. This also goes in line with the latest, large stealth Chinese fighter whose main role is to go into battle with swarms or drones under its controlled … this is the future of warfare.

A lot of ppl believe that swarm attack is something new as it became an overused buzz word recently. Truth is it was implemented long time ago, for example in Russian Onyx anti ship missiles. You just don't get target saturation to use it without it being overkill. There's no point launching 50 drone swarm to kill a tank when a single drone generally suffice. While Russia indeed uses Shaheed style drones of unknown origin 😊 Russian Army has access to a multiple domestic drone systems, including Lancet, Cube as well as wireless and wired attack drones.

@@rinn727 - you need to take a step back and realize are different things. Are the SMALL wireless drones ( under 3-5 kg) who are used as antipersonnel weapons and struggle against big armor ( reason why they need sometimes 1-2 dozens to kill a single tank), but they are CHEAP (under 1-2000 USD) and easy to mass-produce, even as domestic production, then are the medium drones ( like Baba-Yaga) who can carry dozens of kg.s of ordinance, more expensive, Lancet, Cube, etc - we talk about 5000 up to 25 000 USD, then the big ones like Orlan or US reapper, who can go from 50 000 USD (Orlan) (russian big drones) or the (very) expensive S-70 (15 millions) up to the stupidly expensive MQ-9 Reaper, who is some 30 millions+ USD... Now, the new small fiber-optic drones are somehow the "high end" of the small drones, but they are way more cost-effective since you do not lose them to the jamming devices.... and are still very cheap, under 1000-1500 USD, yet capable to disable a 50 millions tank.

FPV drones are a game changing development for armoured vehicles now, not just for NATO hardware, for military forces across the globe. If I were BAE et al I would be putting every penny into developing a simple (ish) active protection system for all armoured vehicles, if that were to work effectively armour would regain its pre FPV status.

Yeah, now Russians would have soldiers riding bikes and baggies to get from a staging area to the attack line rather than heavy armored columns that Ukrainians used in Kursk... And make no mistake: that is not because they lack in tanks or armor - it just makes much more sense on the new battlefield!

That will be a loss of resources and time, you cannot counter swarms of drones - just survive 15-30 sec more, and that is. Wait until AI driven autonomous drones are mass-produced - no jamming, no counter... a country like China can produce millions of these / month, with no sweat.

My theory as to why the ukranians haven't started using fiber optic drones is from my understanding they are relatively short ranged the ukranians would rather use signal booster drones and get more range for their drones than reinvent tow missiles

You ignore the BIGGEST problem here - EW jamming, and most important russian vehicles carry a bunch of jammers, hell even individual troops carry portable ones. A wired drone is immune to that, hence is a lot more cost/effective. Wait until they manage to sent electrical power trough tinny cables, so you can keep a 5-10km range drone with HQ optics and IR up, in the air, 24/7, making circles...and painting targets.

@mirandela777 the fo drones are short range 1km to 3km the cable is the weak point so they aren't a magical game changer for either side. They aren't even as good at taking out armored vehicles as a real ATGM . Though they have likely replaced light & medium mortars.

I am not sure where this comparison with 2023 offensive came from. I think Ukrainian losses for Kursk adventure though significant (about 50 k in people, 296 tanks, about 390 other armor, 1520 military vehicles, 1400 trucks and cars, 350 guns, 13 HIMARS and 44 other types of ground-to-ground rocket systems, 16 air defense systems, 16 radars etc... according to the Russian official sources) are still lower than their losses in 2023 offensive.

I've heard other say it's worse, but you might be right. Maybe it's worse than the Zaporizhzhia offensive trying to get to Tokmak that got bogged down around Robotyne, but not the losses in entirety when other areas such as Klischiivka where significant fighting occurred are counted
