120 days - roughly four months: That’s how much time Maxim Timchenko reckons Ukraine has until cold weather sets in, raising the pressure on Ukraine’s crippled power infrastructure. Timchenko is CEO of the country’s largest private energy operator, DTEK, which has lost power plants in recent Russian attacks - part of a Russian offensive that has wiped out half of Ukraine’s power production. He tells Steven Beardsley how he’s now trying to scrape together every bit of generating capacity he can find, including from renewables.

@timmy • Why do you want President Zelensky to violate the United Nations Charter? Under the Charter, countries should not hold elections at a time of war. That is why the "elections" Russia held in Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson were in violation of the international rule of law. Top that off with the fact that Russia didn't even occupy the entire oblasts, so they excluded much of the population from voting and you have your typical rigged election.

Excellent interview. Mr. .Timchenko is on top of his task, but I can't help think of him being safe and enjoying a good standard of living and comfort, whilst his countrymen are in dire danger at the front line. I know that this is likely unfair, but it is what comes to mind I am afraid. It's the same when I watch the Ukrainian football team, most of whom will be earning many tens of thousands per week in the European football leagues.

@avex3903: They are, indeed not working like they do in Hollywood. They are, instead, working as expected by military professionals. Except for the Ukrainian mad lads with their HIMARS - they're the exception, and we also have to give a lot of credit to Ukrainian fire control methods there. We might also have to carve out another exception for ATACMS and similar European kit if the Russians keep losing entire S-400 systems (the radar, all the launchers...) to them, but - again - Ukrainian operational skill is critical. See Perun's video on recent developments in global arms markets to get a sense of the "Ukraine effect". To potential buyers, a warning: "Just because the Ukrainians are clapping so mnay Moskal butt-cheeks with these babies doesn't mean YOU necessarily can. User skill always matters."
