@@zoom777 I'm not sure they even have the ability to do that, though. Peskov said they're open to negotiations, but first the Parliament has to fix the issue with the decree that was passed making it illegal to, and to deal with the legitimacy issues of the president. Even if they were to surrender, that's still a formal process...and there's no one with the authority to do it. It's like a deer in the headlights, but while the government officials are frozen in inaction, thousands die every day.

I tend to agree with you. However Ukraine bears a lot of the responsibility. They could have said no to NATO. I guess the Russians were slightly more powerful than they expected. It's more likely the NATO leaders are completely incompetant. I could have told you two years ago this was going to happen and all I am is a lowly teacher.

Crimea was already de facto Russian for 8 years and DNR and LNR would have been autonomies within Ukraine I think not!!!!

Zelensky didn't try to prevent the conflict through diplomacy because he lacks honor and integrity. In 2014 there was a coup. Soon after, there was a massacre in Odessa (dozens of people were burned alive). Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. A civil war broke out due to the rise in ethnic tensions. For 8 years the Ukrainian military was indiscriminately shelling civilians living in Donbas. If Zelensky honored the Minsk agreement and pledged neutrality, none of this would have happened. The 8 year civil war would have ended and Donbas would have remained part of Ukraine. War is the ultimate failure of diplomacy. Zelensky, Poroshenko, Merkel and Hollande admitted that Ukraine had no intention to honor the Minsk agreements. Who didn't want peace? Who advised against the 2022 peace talks in April? Hint: someone visited Zelensky in Kiev at that time Russia's national security was compromised once NATO began to expand eastwards. Russia clearly stated that Ukraine joining NATO was a red line (November 2021) and unfortunately this concern was never taken seriously. The Russians openly stated: if nothing changes, we will be forced to act in order to defend our national security. Enhancing the national security of one country at the expense of another is unacceptable. The Russians have legitimate security concerns. 20th September, 2021. Ukraine launched military drills with US and NATO NATO is not a defensive alliance. NATO illegally bombed Yugoslavia (a direct violation of the U.N. Charter). We should never forget what they did to Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq etc. Who blew up the pipeline causing an environmental disaster? Zelensky banned all opposition and arrested a leading priest. Zelensky tried to invoke article 5 under false pretenses. Remember the incident in Poland. Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. Poroshenko said, “Our children will go to schools and kindergartens-theirs will hide in the basements”. Russians will never forget the 2014 Odessa massacre. The whole world needs to know about it. Why was Denis Kireev eliminated? He was a member of Ukraine's negotiating team during the peace negotiations. He wanted to help his country. Ukraine has a hit list. They target artists, journalists and ordinary citizens. Hundreds of children are on this list. 13 year old Faina Savenkova was placed on this list. Pink Floyd's Roger Waters is on this list. Jimmy Dore (American stand-up comedian, podcaster) and Aaron Maté (Canadian writer and journalist) are on this list. There is evidence that Ukrainian troops have been indiscriminately shelling civilians in Donbas (they used petal mines and targeted areas where there was no military presence). The azov troops trapped in the azovstal steelworks in Mariupol used human shields. They refused to allow civilians to leave despite of humanitarian corridors being present. Russia held a proposed cease fire in order for the civilians to leave, but azov would not allow the civilians to leave. Ukraine has committed many acts of terrorism (car bombs and other forms of assassination). Darya Dugina (journalist) R.I.P. The first terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed the truck driver and the individuals in the adjacent car (innocent civilian victims). The second terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed two parents and severely injured their young daughter. I have done a lot of research and it took me a long time to write this comment. I have stated a lot of facts and I have given my honest opinion. I have provided a brief summary of events that took place. In order to explain this whole situation in great detail, a book would need to be written. Hopefully someone will write an UNBIASED book, stating facts and allowing the readers to form their own judgments. Everything I said can be fact checked and verified.

Kuleba has similar qualities and the dismissed minister of culture also has similar Slavic realism. While understanding what Kiev's mayor means, he has to face the fact that Kiev was allowed to become a sort of 'city state' at the expense of the grossly neglected Donbas and south east coastal strip for decades. As Donbas became a rust and dust belt (and Kharkiv /Sumy cities, not oblasts, were largely able to use displaced skilled and semi-skilled people), the mayor needs to realize that over 1/3rd of working age people in Donbas moved to Russia's equivalent mills and factories decades ago. Also, crucially, the south east coastal strip from Mariupol to Melitopol only avoided depression because post-1991 Russia ordered and had maintained grain ships for the whole chernozem region from Ukrainian yards, despite opposition from Rostov-on-Don after the Gorbachev mess but Yeltsin then his successors saw both the political trust advantages as well as Rostov region being developed for specialized naval assets and energy production. The Ukrainian grain ship arrangement remained in place for some years after the 'Maidan'- sparked conflicts further north. Oligarch corruption had almost wrecked Ukrainian grain production until Russia, CIS and investor states (mainly in the Gulf) formed companies to revitalize product but not attempting to buy the land from the Rep of Ukraine. Further, Russia continued to pre-pay for heavy transport aircraft exclusively from Antonov, Kiev. After 'Maidan' and tension arising from US funding of that phenomenon, Russia reduced orders but, during a major split between the designers/workers and oligarch board [see theft of funds], key Antonov staff moved to Russia and the company now thrives there, mainly on the maintenance side as other design bureaux joined to build military heavy planes. The notion that Zelenskyy is playing "political suicide", as stated by the mayor, is nonsense when the reality is that Zelenskyy has not been the constitutional president since June 1st, when Rada extension time on vote preparation expired. Zelenskyy claimed that his 'martial law' allowed for further delay but there are 'safety net' clauses in the 1991/2 constitution designed to thwart would-be dictators. Zelenskyy ignored these, was ubiquitous abroad without invitation and demanded yet more weapons from the west. Mr V O Zelensky had essentially torn up the constitution, was not a legal president and imposed the fantasies of his motley inner circle (protected by militias) on the people of Ukraine and whatever elements of the UAF still saw him as being president. Prolongation of conflicts in chaotic ways with massive death tolls and maiming is typical of dictators because they know that they imposed too much on the people and are only relevant as impostor/criminals seeking to avoid being put on trial. Perhaps the Kiev mayor is part of the regime and believes that Kiev city is the same thing as Ukraine and not just the base of bought politicians and oligarchs which do not care about Ukraine. Alternatively he could order Kiev police to arrest the regime members and cause Rada Deputies to liaise with a cross section (all ranks) of the UAF to secure a cease fire followed by direct talks then talks with Black Sea neighbors to plan the repair and progress of what will be a 2nd Rep of Ukraine but not as a special case as it has tended to see itself for 30 years. The truth is that while less richly endowed post-Soviet states developed in their different ways through hard work, after Ukraine's brief flirtation with 'democracy' 1992/3, the nimble oligarchs stole from the people and the state became a failed one with debts colossally higher than anywhere else in the northern hemisphere. While world nations will probably help, the priority has to be steady development in the region and is not the business of the USA, UK, EU, NATO and others with habits of using proxies against perceived enemies. These entities have been exposed and none of them is looking very stable.

@@Decoy0527 this is far too rational they wouldn't understand. Ukraine could still have Article 5 protections and membership but no NATO weaponry on Russia's doorstep aka Ukraine. As for the territories it would be legitimized by the people not by force the global community would need to accept that will via legislative actions. The conflict for Crimea ends and Odessa an important Russian heritage city would sweeten the deal. Residents of the occupied territories currently and those displaced by this war or history would be the ones to decide the fate of their birthplace. Creating this process so all sides agree would be challenging. A party like India that the West and Russia trust could be mediators. But what do I know compared to all these geniuses...

@@zartic4lifeHow does Ukraine pose a threat to Russia? Ukraine just like Russia should have every right to arm itself. More so now that we’ve seen that Russia can and will attack. As for the referendums, I agree that holding them would be a good idea, but only if all the displaced people return and the vote is held under a neutral setting so the people can make their fair choice without feeling pressure from either Russia or Ukraine.

@@strpet27 Anyway the territories controlled by Russia will vote for Russia and Ukrainian for Ukraine. The people will choose predictable future as opposed to changes that will follow after government change once again (for some people it would be their third or fourth time).

Kiev passed a law for forbidding any peace negotiation with Russia. Until that law is removed and until Zelenski wins an election to legitimise his role as President, there will not be any negotiation.

I don't get three things If nato really cares for Ukrainian citizens why would they invite ukrain to join nato when it's right next to Russia when main purpose of nato itself is anti Russia? why did ukrain join nato and nato let them join even after putin warning them if they really care for citizens? why didn't they make ukrain withdraw from nato or ukrain itself didn't withdraw from NATO after war started if they really care for citizens? It's clear who's behind this war they wanted this to happen it happened.
