@@f-86zoomer37 you want Ukraine to use modern supersonic jets to down small UAV ???? firstly economically it makes no sense since after everyof flight a few hours of maintanance need to be done and secondly those planes are crazy fast to even be able to track the small drones..... You are either a Ruzzian Troll or a space muppet ...

Jets are to fast to hunt drones . They are used to drop the french hammers on frontline units , a video was released on telegrams last week . As for russia winning , it's not losing like many in the west think , sure . But winning? Mayor loss of population , economic troubles and practically fully dependent on china (almost 90% of critical trade now commes from china , if chi says no russia is ruind )

This makes sense. Jets may be too fast to get a good shot at slow-moving drones. You probably need a prop plane, helicopter, or another drone for this task.

It's a good idea. I'm guessing they already tried using semi auto shotguns and felt the infantry rifle bullets were better.
@argentaegis
@argentaegis 4 күн бұрын
Probably a range issue. 50ish yards doesn't give a lot of time for the shot, and frankly that's a bit close to be flying that fast in a "highly experienced airframe" near something that explodes.
@mjk9388
@mjk9388 4 күн бұрын
@@argentaegis You're probably right. There are shot gun shells that shoot birdshot or buck shot farther. I was just thinking shooting rifle bullets down into an urban area is probably more dangerous than shotgun shells that would lose a lot of their momentum by the time they hit dirt.
@deanfirnatine7814

Actually shotguns have been pretty effective for infantry against drones, hitting it with a standard rifle is MUCH harder.
@konfunable

@@argentaegis These drones do not explode. They only shoot down reconnaissance drones. Iranian Shaheeds have too powerful warheads and YAK would be blown away. Safe distance would be too far for any rifle to be effective.

Definitely using what I'd call "flak style" munitions. Skyranger is in use and more weapons that fire the same sort of AHEAD ammo will be on the way if Rheinmetall's new Frankentank catches on. (I did a story on that too, 😁) But those systems can't be everywhere... Which makes the Yak a decent option over more rural areas

During World War I planes were unarmed. Pilots had six shot revolvers, then rifles because range matters. I recall reading that sometimes a bag with a couple bricks was part of their kit. A year or so later Lewis guns mounted within reach of the cockpit (so the pilot could reach them with a long handled hammer to clear jams) were the norm. What's next here might involve low pressure Soviet 30mm or NATO 40mm grenades with time fuses for air burst, or maybe a renaissance for the compact bullpup P90, with its small but potent 5.7x28mm and relatively deep 50 round magazine. Then unarmed surveillance drones will ram light planes. Then we'll see ground launched drone hunting drones in pairs on makeshift hardpoints. The future isn't hundred million dollar fuel guzzlers, it's a million hundred dollar 3D printed children's toys with battlefield mods. Ukraine is showing us how the Lockheed Skypig's nose is going to be pried from the feeding trough.
