During a press conference while visiting Poland, Boris Johnson was confronted by the Ukrainian activist Daria Kaleniuk on the west's failure to do more for Ukraine, nearly a week after Russia's bloody invasion

Towards the end of her question, Kaleniuk appears to fight back tears. The UK prime minister admitted the government cannot do enough, saying if the UK were to impose a no-fly zone that would lead to direct combat with Russia. 'The consequences would be very hard to control,' Johnson added

Boris Johnson is a POS. The nerve of condemning Putin for arresting people that hold non government approved protests when they just voted for the same thing last night but an even more undemocratic protest bill than what Russia has. 10 years in jail for noisy or non government approved protests even protests of ONE PERSON! Dictatorship.

I respect the woman's bravery, but this problem with Russia has got to be some of the most delicate situations I have ever seen. One wrong move from any powerful country, let alone the United Kingdom, and it could set off a war with Russia. I understand that many countries have to try harder to fight for Ukraine, and they should, but we also have to avoid invoking a nuclear war. World War 3 is the last thing we want to happen.

Agreed. Ukraine is not a NATO member, so legally speaking there's no obligation to enter this conflict. And NATO interference would trigger a response from Russia, with a possible war on a continental level. We understand Ukrainians' fears, their cries for help break my heart but we must be extremely careful. A single spark could ignite the entire continent.

In fairness to Johnson, that might be the first time I've seen genuine sincerity on his face. And his response that we cannot do what she wants to help is just honest. There is a real acute risk of something truly horrific happening if we don't tread carefully. I realise she's devastated, but once those emotional clouds disperse, she has to rationally realise that what she's asking for is a World War.

Silly comparison. NATO only ever attacked non-democratic "regimes". Not the people. As we could see in Afghanistan, the people themselves actually welcomed the Western efforts to introduce democracy in the country. And most countries where NATO conducted military operations were already poor, and/or in the middle of civil wars, unlike Ukraine, which had a functional economy and democracy. Now, I know it's a waste of time to try explaining reality to people who clearly lack any education to speak of. But that's how it is. There's no "double standard". Not many would care if this was a civil war. Nor would many care if Putin was actually trying to help introduce democracy into the country, instead of trying to conquer it for the sake of his own ambitions while threatening other countries with nuclear weapons.

Yep. People's lives are in danger precisely the Ukrainians are fighting too hard and too well. This coincides with greater number of bombardments. Once the Russians see how strong the Ukrainians are, they'll use bombardments on civilian areas because that's why a lot of Ukrainian troops are posted for a Guerilla warfare and consequently civilian casualties. It was the same with the US in the middle east, when the terrorists were far too determined and blowing themselves up all over the place, the US in a bid to avoid their own casualties used drones to strike down terrorists in their terrorist cells and unfortunately tens of thousands of children and women were unfortunately killed in the process

wait but isn't letting a country take over other countries worse for involvement of nuclear missiles and WW3? Do you really expect Putin to stop after taking Ukraine? After Poland? Germany has nuclear missiles. Isn't the worst-case scenario to allow Putin to get closer to putting Germany in an existentially dangerous siutation? Did nobody pay attention in WW2? Placation doesn't stop dictators. Only force stops dictators. Putin will stop this war when he kills himself in a bunker fleeing the Americans.

There is enormous pressure on western leaders to intervene further in this conflict. Put yourself in their shoes - the stress must be enormous. As much as it pains me to say, Boris is right, a Nato no-fly zone over Ukraine would likely lead to a greater conflict. However, on the other hand, if Putin succeeds in Ukraine, then that may likely embolden him to go further? Moldova could be next. Somehow, leaders on both sides, and throughout the world need to press the pause button - and think about the preservation of humanity, and then attempt to de-escalate and demilitarise globally to ensure a secure future for all.
