They gave us the 95 crime bill. They increased the surveillance state and police state. Obama was the one who created the cages for kids. They had 60 years to Codify Roe v Wade. But, instead, they use it as a scare tactic and fund raising tool. Trump's rhetoric gave those who gave up on electoral politics hope. So, they voted for him. Turned out that he was just like all the rest, but the MSM keeps pounding into people's heads that he's a "threat to our democracy". What democracy? We have two parties who are captured by corporations and AI-PAC. Plus, Bernie proved that no matter if your candidate wins the primary, the dnc will choose their preferred candidate because it's a private corporation. Two honest questions. How do you define "mainstream news"? It is a very broad, fluid category. And if MSM is not trustworthy where should one go for news?

I am a huge Bernie Sanders supporter, but I am disappointed with his response to the questions regarding Palestine. He doesn't want genocide to be delegitimized be applying it loosely to anything, and I get that, but that is why we have a definition for what constitutes a genocides - we even have a 10 Steps of Genocide that every single one has followed. People are not calling it a genocide because they want to horrify others into action, but because it fits the definition we have all agreed on under international law. And it has never been about the number of deaths - a definition that matches Part A but ignores Part B - but about Intent. See the Bosnian Genocide, the most well known part having "only" 8,000 Bosniak men and boys killed. That "only" 30,000 are dead does not mean this isn't a genocide, and suggesting otherwise ignores both our history and our agreed upon international laws. The other heartbreaking part of his response - a thing that so many people are falling to - is the insistence of "women and children", as if civilian men are not deserving of life either. As if men are not deserving of protection. It is a rhetoric that feeds into the idea that Arab men are terrorists. You can also argue it ignores the idea that women can also fight, but that's another tangent. In Bosnia, Muslim men were killed because they were seen as potential fighters and therefore a threat. These were people as young as 12 because "men" is a loose definition in these situations. Those men deserved protection too; existing as a male of color does not mean you are a natural threat. Repeating that most of the deaths in Palestine have been women and children, and using that as evidence for why what israel is doing is inhumane, is the wrong approach. What israel is doing - what israel has been doing since its inception - is inhumane regardless of the age or gender of the people they are murdering. And yes Sanders, you know what Zionism means. You just don't want to make a clear statement on it, which is also heartbreaking. A two state solution appeases the atrocities that israel has been committing since anti-semites pushed for it's creation - the Nakba of '48 being one of the more well known examples of the ethnic cleansing. What we need is not appeasement of an invading force, but a Truth and Reconciliation similar to what happened in South Africa. Jewish people lived in Palestine before the zionist invasion, only extremists on all sides think that they cannot continue to live there. Hells, there are Palestinian Jews being slaughtered by israel right now. (This will of course require us to look critically at why politicians can say things like "if israel didn't exist, there would be no safe place on Earth for Jewish people", as if that weren't a massive red flag. Why aren't other countries safe guys? Maybe we should work on that rather than invade an existing country and tell Jewish people to settle there? I know that the original defense of zionism was to force Jewish people to leave their home countries, but maybe we shouldn't continue that line of thinking anymore and actually combat the anti-semitism around us? If we don't do that, and if we don't address the islamophobia that has also been growing in power the last couple decades, then we'll never find a peaceful solution that actually results in a free Palestine.) Obviously there is a lot more that can be said here, but I am disappointed. I am happy he is so vocal about condemning Netanyahu and Hamas - though suggesting that Hamas attacked israel unprovoked is... not accurate and blatantly ignores decades of history - but I wish he would have been... stronger on this. This is not a new war, this is not something that we can only find information on via news outlets, or by watching people on the ground begging for help. There are scholarly articles and books about this - and about genocides in general. There is a clear aggressor here, and there are the victims that have been radicalized into violence, perpetuating a vicious cycle. I will always love Bernie Sanders, and I know that no politician will ever be perfect, but I am definitely disappointed with his responses here.

Reading some of the comments in reply to persons that point out Sander's qualities ..... plenty of cynicism and ignorance which are hallmarks of the bitter and lazy . Lazy because they don't want to work to make a better society. If you think Bernie Sanders talks alot and says nothing , then you're either not listening or are in denial. He actually means what he says and works hard in a very hostile to common sense environment to evoke change. And he does get things done. You don't have to agree with him but you should respect him.

An excellent conversation/interview. My unlikely wish for a US president/vice president combination would be Bernie Sanders and Arnold Schwarzenegger, or vice versa. I think that although they are in different houses, there is a remarkable similarilty in their ideologies. Arnie of course is currently ineligible for the presidency as he was not born in the USA; but hey nothing is forever.
