STORYLINE:
Soldiers used self-propelled artillery as they continued their campaign aimed at pushing Russian forces further away from Ukraine's second largest city of Kharkiv.
The city came under a barrage of shelling overnight, its mayor Ihor Terekhov said.
"There are Ukrainians in California, who really help us, they help Ukrainian defenders," Demydenko told AP.
