European diversity now is a very recent thing though, UK France Germany Sweden are not USA. It's only been a short a time from American culture and society influencing European nations, to the idea that citizenship is just a passport, being common. When in reality it's still only just being common as a result of the last century of change. It's also in the last few decades that culture in Europe is being systematically erased in order to pave the way for a more global identity, which leaves what left?
@jay1jayf7 ай бұрын
there was too many Yts in europe, to be fair.
@nobody-n9s7 ай бұрын
Im from Germany and you’re right it’s recent and Europe oriented itself after the USA. But the history is a little different too because Europe has a lot of ties to African countries due to colonialism and forced part of their culture like language to the nations there so it’s a pendulum shift where a lot of them live in Europe and have it easier to integrate due to the history! Also Europe is paying for it now with mass frustrations and fights between natives and migrants! And idk if it’s a good move for Japan to head that way… because a lot of the appeal is due to Japan representing such a strong culture identity and beauty of the country and that will fade away once they head that direction. So I get why people might feel weird about it and they shouldn’t be dismissed because of it.

Anyone allowed to participate should have the chance to win. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be allowed to enter in the first place
@yangkhama_7 ай бұрын
I think it's also to do with the beauty standards. If a european looking person wins Miss Japanese then that's like even IN Japan, asian beauty standards is not winning over european beauty standards (big eyes, white complexion, blue eyes, blond hair etc)... Also, why USA UK & majority of western Europe are more known to have multicultural winners in beauty pageants etc is because they ARE so multicultural (owing to colonialism). It is not because these countries are "more accepting" inherently but because of their colonial history where they took in people of colour & now that the countries are multicultural, winners being of a different colour doesn't seem strange & they can still be "British" or "French" etc... It's not just black & white. People being unhappy with a Ukrainian woman winning Miss Japanese doesn't mean they're no accepting of this idea inherently but being uncomfortable with what this means in terms of asian faces as beauty standards...
@DiamondGyal7 ай бұрын
The colorism and colonialism still stands in the beauty standards of Asia. So seeing that a non native woman won, especially it being one from the west is just heartbreaking to people of the actual nation. If a western person won Miss Indonesia I would be hella pissed, sure you’ve lived there most your life but that don’t mean you’re Indonesian of blood. We already have enough of half white ppl dominating the acting industries. When you open the tv the first thing you see is a “Indonesian” that don’t even look like 80% of the population. There’s a real need for representation. I’m not mad at people disliking the fact that this woman won.

Everyday you have to code-switch and decide exactly how Black you need to be in a situation so someone else does not get alarmed and call the police on you or get you fired! I opened the door for a woman at work 2 1/2 years ago and she gasped and looked at me crazy like I was trying to rob her. Mind you we work at a Fortune 500 company and I was probably wearing a $200 Dashiki (I’m a toy/fashion designer and my parents are African -which informs everything that I do) If I told her off, I would definitely have gotten fired, so I ignored it. The guy who was leaving with her and I were just formally introduced a couple of weeks ago. He brought up the incident and complimented me on how I addressed the situation and laughed about the fact that that woman was just laid off six months ago, and that she was a total Karen. We are not left alone to exist because the second you step out of bounds and simply exist and NOT think about race, there will be someone trying to put you back in your place. Zuby clearly did not grow up in America.

the thing is with the Polish/ Romania , etc example of people thinking it is going to be only like white people, it is usually true, but there are so many people of different ethnicities even in just Poland (my mom is Polish so that's what I know the most about). There is a big Vietnamese population, a Korean population, some people from Africa, etc. i remember my (Polish)uncle in the US who works for the government, he had a story of a guy asking for someone who speaks Polish and it was an African man that had grown up in Poland and moved to the US And then there's like also the Romani people, and also there's a lot of people that are polish and mixed with some other ethnicity, and it's not just like a small portion of the population necessarily.

What has made Japan so cool is how socially homogenous everyone is. Part of that is due to their ethnic homogeneity. You might think it’s lame that they have such pride in that fact, but in reality it’s one of the critical components of that culture that many of us have come to love. It’s cool when there is a melting pot of people, but you do run the risk of losing a traditional cultural identity. I can’t fault them for possibly wanting to preserve that.
@Taromilktea19957 ай бұрын

@@Taromilktea1995 full transparency, I would never bow to anyone because of just an age thing, but I do realize my beliefs on things are so far away from the norm that I actually appreciate when others have some sort of tradition that honors elders or significant people. But socially if they standard is expected to honor your elders, there is something beautiful about it from the outside looking in.
