Never forget (hopefully) the mercy shown to him. I have read such stories of WW1 and WW2. Small bits of humanity shown tend to not get forgotten. They get passed down to the next generation. I read one story where an American pilot in WW2 got separated and lost in thick clouds over Germany. He was initially relieved to a bunch of aircraft and he joined in thinking it was his flight. Welp. Suddenly the sky was clear and he realized to his horror he had joined an entire flight of Germans in formation. He knew he was screwed. Apparently the Germans realized this too, started talking on their radios…..and laughing at the dumb American in their mist. After a bit a German flew next to him, and signaled him to get out of there, they were letting him go (laughing while gesturing). There was a code in the air at the time. Look up when a German Pilot escorted a barely flying B-17 home…..
