At an airbase in Denmark, the Danish Air Force has been training the next generation of Ukrainian fighter pilots to fly the F-16 Fighting Falcon.
A coalition of NATO Allies, including Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands and Norway, has agreed to donate their F-16s to the Ukrainian Air Force. As part of the deal, Danish instructors at Skrydstrup Air Base are training Ukrainian pilots, technicians and ground crew how to fly and maintain the F-16. The first jets will enter service later this year.
The Ukrainian pilots are full of praise for the F-16, noting its responsive controls and agile flight features.
The F-16 is an advanced multirole fighter, which will replace Ukraine’s aging fleet of MiG-29 Fulcrums and Su-27 Flankers. Speedy, highly manoeuvrable and capable of carrying a wide range of ordnance, the F-16 will significantly strengthen Ukraine’s ability to continue defending its airspace and territory against Russia's war of aggression.
Footage includes shots of an F-16 launching a training scramble, as well as interviews with a Ukrainian F-16 pilot and the Chief of the Royal Danish Air Force.

They are being trained. The Danish F16s were supposed to be delivered around New year 🎉. But it was postponed because the Danes didn't think the ground crews were ready. Mainly due to the language barrier. But they are ready now. And the pilots have had extra time for training.

A year ago, various sources said that the first F16s would be deployed in autumn 2023. The highly motivated Ukrainian pilots are undergoing faster and more intensive training because time is of the essence. Now, a year later, politicians are saying Autumn'24! It's better not to make any information public if it is not certain!!!

In normal times, I agree. I war time, I disagree. Besides that, I don't think the pilots are the problem. Ground personnel for maintenance and infrastructure (runways, underground storage) must also be ready. I think that is the bottle neck. And so, the pilots keep on training, the more the better.

The 32 Airmen Ukraine sent us to be F-16 pilots weren't even pilots. Brand new recruits. They learned to fly propeller planes in the UK. Then learned to fly jet trainers in France.

These Danish ones stem from the very early 1980ies - they are F-16A/B models, with second-hand F-100 engines, they had their MLU in the late 1990ies or so. They are the oldest F-16s in the world - but battle proven. Edited due to numerous typos.
