Liudmyla fled Ukraine in March 2022, arriving in Siedlce, Poland with very few belongings, including a the pair of scissors she used to cut hair back home. For six months she rented an apartment and worked in low-income jobs that didn’t pay her enough to afford her rent. She was psychologically devastated.
Liudmyla felt a sense of security and stability when she moved into refugee housing provided by a local organization. She now runs her own hairdressing salon and while she longs to return to a peaceful Ukraine, she is happy to have been able to return to her profession in Poland.
