Hi Anna. Here is a quote from Nancy Rathburn: “A strong woman understands that the gifts such as logic, decisiveness, and strength are just as feminine as intuition and emotional connection. She values and uses all of her gifts.” Thank you for the videos that you post and the 'Ukrainian Word of the Day'. They are very informative and appreciated. 🤗🤗 Keep changing the world one day at a time. I wish you a Happy and Pleasant International Women's Day. Хай живе Україна! 💙💙💙💛💛💛

Hello magnificent Anna! The 8th of March is to me an occasion to think about women status and freedom in my country Canada and all over the world. I don't think of myself as a feminist either. Hello dear Anna. IWD is an event here, but it was never a day for flowers and chocolate like it was in the soviet space. Here it has been a day of struggle (in our recent past), but now more of raising awareness of the issues we still face, of acknowledgement of the progress we have made and of honouring women, whose accomplishments and perspectives were long written out of our collective history. Maybe that's a little bit like how Gay pride day has transformed through the decades. These are two groups which struggled for recognition and equality but who have mostly achieved these goals in western countries. Women have struggled for a long time in the west to achieve equality. We probably adopted IWD from the USSR because the left romanticized it back in the 60s and 70s. It was only later, with writers like Solzeniztin and with Gorbachev's memorial project, that we saw how the USSR was not a place of social cooperation, equality and personal self-determination that we should aspire to or emulate or perhaps just learn from, but a totalitarian system which had twisted the lofty ideas of socialism into something that mostly just crushed society and dissidents, in particular. There are still marches to bring attention to certain areas where women still struggle, like migrant workers, trafficked women, sex workers, other issues that concern marginalized women, but we don't have massive women's day marches anymore, at least not that I see in my country. Some women (or men) don't like to call themselves feminists, but I think this is a misinformed way of thinking. Being a feminist just means that you believe in freedom and equality for everyone, but it also means that you believe in the emancipation of feminine values, too. For most of our history, our politics was dominated by harsher values - strength, individuality, self-sufficiency, social conformity, individual property rights and so on. The values of care, cooperation, inclusion of difference, planning for future generations, of making the community prosper and of caring for the commons (both the social commons, the physical common spaces in cities and the natural, ecological commons) were largely absent from our politics. So feminism is about including more women in politics and in the highest decision making positions, yes, but it is also about including these traditionally feminine values back into our decision and policy making process. We can't have a healthy, democratic society until we include all of ourselves, and all parts of ourselves, completely into it. So that is what feminism means, today: Inclusion, care, progress and equality for all.

As an Australian, we never had any celebration of this day until recent times (decade or so) where it is slowly gaining a broader consciousness via some publicized official events. I however, have been more keenly aware of this holiday since developing a long term relationship (over 5 years now) with a Ukranian woman, whom (despite her lack of enthusiasm for "cut flowers") has been happy for us to mark/celebrate the occasion. This year (due to the war) she thought it would be "frivolous" to spend money on such things, and requested that I not do that (too late, I had already arranged and paid for the gift), and that money is better spent elsewhere on more needed and sensible things. So this is my experience of Womens Day, and wonder if other Ukrainian women have also changed their attitudes to this holiday in light of the current war? Thank you Anna, for your efforts and the video's you make, they are much appreciated.

Molodets. Respect for women is indicative of quality of life. I was raised to treat everyone the same. It makes life easier when everyone is accepted, treated well regardless of things they cannot change. Until that happens; reminding the world of how things could be, is helpful. Refusing to be subjugated by the Rus aggressor and having a long history of strong women's rights, catapults Ukraine into a role of a world leader. Yes, you should be proud, but remember that the lives of women and girls in some places around the world have a long way to go. Good topic. Diakuyu, Anna. Discovered the Dahk Daughters before I retired in 2018. Had already discovered Dahkabrahka. Maybe it is the Kansas boy in me but I hear them. My maternal grandmother was a suffragette and only got the vote two years before mom was born. Dad took his first trip to Europe 1944-5. So glad what my father experienced there brought him home to mom and my oldest brother as a partner. Mom held my dad till he stopped shaking and was a partner till he passed (wish my ex could have made any effort), and I made sure my daughters believed they could touch the sky. I am, I think a good man. I have never in my life doubted that women made all the difference, and thanks to my father never had my manhood threatened by strong women. There is a frescoe at the 'World famous Topeka Zoo' of the folk that came to Kansas in the time when only half would survive a year. I have seen that in the grandmas, moms and daughters of Ukraine. Slava Ukraini!

We are housing a Ukrainian mum and daughter here in Denmark at the moment and there is clearly such a big generation gap. Mum grew up when Ukraine was part of USSR and daughter is only 12 so has only ever known Ukraine as a country that is trying to become truly modern. One thing I have learned is that Ukrainian mama is very determined, curious about EVERYTHING I do in the kitchen (I am a guy and I don't think she trusts my abilities and that my wife lets me do most of the cooking) and proud - she insists that cleaning is one of her hobbies. Ukrainian daughter is fiercely intelligent, highly perceptive and completely uninterested in making food and has big plans for her future career. For a 12-year old, she thinks at a level that you would have been 16 or more in my generation (I'm 53). I didn't buy flowers for my wife today - as it's not traditional to do so in Denmark. I hope the Ukrainian ladies in my house don't think I am a male chauvinist.

Here in the US approximately 30 to 40 percent of men think that women belong in the home and not in the work force and that they should be subservient to men. I am not one of them. I think women have equal talents and should have equal opportunities. Celebrating a day of women only tries to point out the inequality of women in my opinion.

Good to see you on International Women’s Day. It’s practically unknown here in the USA. But that’s changing. I was wondering about the attitude of modern Ukrainians toward this holiday. Perhaps celebrating Valentines Day in February and a Mother’s Day in May like we do would allow you to move from the old Soviet holiday. Ukraine was always the smartest part of the old Soviet Union. Since I don’t live in Ukraine, at least not yet, I don’t get a vote on this subject but I would say first replace the 8th of March with at least two new holidays before getting rid of the Soviet holiday. Hello Anna! In Italy it's a working day and in general it's really just an occasion to go out and have an "all women" evening and have fun. In the media instead they talk about women's rights, something absolutely necessary since the situation in the country is still dreadful. The only thing "expected" by many women is mimosa flowers, I personally don't like the smell haha and today I simply bought a slice of cake with my mother. I will definitely check out more about the Ukrainian women you mentioned! And obviously yes to the episode of soviet miths debunked, I love the series! Ps the goal of feminism IS equality, then there are extremists, and misoginysts that use them to discredit our fights. We still have a long way to go in many places all around the world! Here in Sweden, most eyes are on two women today during 8th March. One is Alina Zubkovych, director of the organization Nordic Ukraine Forum (yes, she is Ukrainian). One of our biggest daily newspapers, Svenska Dagbladet, had a big article today where she was interviewed about her research on the situation of the Crimean Tatars after the occupation of Ukraine in 2014 and got to talk about the brave Ukrainian women who serve in the army. The other is the Swedish feminist journalist Lisa Bjurwald, who interviewed Ukrainian women who were raped by the evil Russian orcs during the current war. With these testimonies, Lisa Bjurwald has written a book called Slava Ukraini (it was Lisa herself who wanted the book to be called that). For me, feminism is not some kind of antagonism against men, but rather a striving for equality and equality regardless of gender. One of the many reasons why I wholeheartedly support Ukraine is because I am a feminist. It is patriarchy and misogyny, not the male gender, that is my enemy. And we all know what kind of society russia is. The word feminist is like a swear word there, men's violence against women is decriminalised and women do not have the same rights as men. Do you remember when Putler said in his speech; "like it or not like it, bear with me, my beautiful" about Ukraine, just before the full-scale invasion? This is rape rhetoric on par with how Putler's orch army is behaving in Ukraine. Russia is misogyny and patriarchy embodied. Sometimes, feminism has to be defended with a rifle, on a battlefield. Any kind of suggestion for "peace talks" or "negotiations" with russia is, in my opinion, straight away anti-feminist. SLAVA UKRAINI! ♀️🇺🇦
@Tuzganaq
@Tuzganaq Жыл бұрын
@Piseag Yes, it does! That's absolutely correct! One can compare the masculinities of Putler and Zelensky btw. It's like day and night. Zelensky has a healthy kind of masculinity (he has never been afraid to show soft sides or "feminine sides"), while Putler shows huge symptoms of the russian toxic masculinity. No wonder Putler has fanboys like Andrew Tate, Jordan B Peterson, and Steven Seagal. No wonder incels like russia.

Sweden is a nice country to live in, Norway too (but it's much more expensive there than here in Sweden). And I know it will be nice in Tatarstan when the ruzzkiy reich falls apart, it's just a matter of time and the independence movements are more active than ever (even though from abroad). I know that Uzbekistan will finally reach the goals of democracy when that nasty ruzzian empire finally collapses. Crimea was free during Ukrainian rule and when liberated, there will be a Crimean Tatar civil society there again. I remember how Brexit hit you hard, the EU has given so much good to us. But yes, now we have a bigger threat than Brexit. The ruzzian state has always been my enemy even when I lived there as a kid, but now I know that it won't last much longer. As my Crimean Tatar grandmother always said; insha'Allah! 💪🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇸🇪🇺🇿🇺🇦

International Women's Day has been around for awhile but I don't see much about it in the USA. But then again there is Mothers Day, Sweetest Day, Valentines Day that are generally for the women. There is an International Men's Day now. There aren't any expectations of gifts or appreciations but more about men's health, relationships within the family, learning to be a good man even if there are no role models etc. The day is about improving oneself and being aware of men's needs and mens communities for the betterment of self. I haven't seen any celebrations in general for IMD but there is for Fathers Day and it's enough. I don't know of any other celebration or days for men in the USA.

Happy international women’s day to you Anna. Thank you for keeping it real the past year, sharing you intelligence, emotions, and knowledge throughout these testing times. Your beauty is just a bi product of the amazing woman you are. A credit to your parents, family and country, and a gift to humanity. Slava Ukraini.

Brilliant Anna, I'm writing on my husband's computer. We both appreciate learning from your vlogs. Because of you, we are searching for more information on the culture of Ukraine. Please would you tell us more history of how the women handled the responsibilities of their husbands, while the men were away fighting. Were women trained to fight off attackers? How did they defend their land? Were women trained to be horsewomen? (I was an Olympic level horsewoman and still manage my horse farm in Virginia, USA.)

I meant heard, not "herd" lol. Also, in the states March is Woman's History Month. So, rather than a day, the whole month is dedicated to learning about the achievements of the fairer sex🙂

Happy International Women's Day! 🎊🎉🌻🍁💐🌾🇺🇦 Of course it would be nice if it was a holiday from work, but many years ago, it was called International Working Women's Day- and many bosses (who were usually men) would give their female workers a flower! Maybe it would be cute if female bosses gave something to their male workers on a particular day (trying to think of what would be appropriate)🫢😅-🖖Live long and Prosper 🖖💜🩷 💙💛🇺🇦

Yeah, I'd say, alongside international women's day, create an international men's day and female bosses can give male workers a flower on it as well! In a liberated society, flowers wouldn't just be for women (not that they have to just be so today). Who shouldn't enjoy a good flower?

@maxhirsch7035 Yes this is very true. My husband loves flowers, especially roses🌹. Occasionally I am the one giving him a flower on Valentines day! It should work both ways! 💐🌹🎉🍁
