Ukrainian soldiers repaired on Friday (June 16) a Russian infantry fighting vehicle captured in the eastern Donetsk region during a counteroffensive against Russia.
The transmission and engine of the BMP-2 were deemed to be in very good condition, the latter appearing to have had only 26 hours of running time, according to Ihor, a 66-year-old soldier repairing it.
The vehicle was captured on Thursday (June 15), video released by Ukraine's army showed, as Kyiv said it had regained control of over 100 square km (38 square miles) of territory.
Brigadier-General Oleksii Hromov confirmed Russian troops that invaded in February 2022 had been forced out of seven settlements in the eastern region of Donetsk and in the southern region of Zaporizhzhia.
The army has advanced by to 3 km (1.8 miles) near the village of Mala Tokmachka in the Zaporizhzhia sector and by up to 7 km near a village south of Velyka Novosilka in the Donetsk sector, Hromov said.
Reuters could not verify the battlefield situation.

You know, I was once very fond of the USA, it seemed to me that this is a dream country where you can achieve your dreams, that there is democracy and justice, films from the USA showed us the heroes that we wanted to become, they were honest, brave, fair, fought against the bad ones and always came to the aid of ordinary people around the world. But I grew up and stopped believing in fairy tales. I began to collect information myself (after all, I am a journalist) and analyze information and come to logical conclusions. And you know what I saw? The USA and Great Britain are countries of lies, and they have achieved and maintain their happy life and prosperity by plundering other countries, as well as by unleashing wars around the world. Right now, my country is on fire and it is simply being robbed, my fellow citizens are being killed and weapons are being supplied to it, so that even more of my fellow citizens die and the United States prepares Ukrainians how to carry out terrorist acts against Russia as they did - ISIS, the al-Qaeda and the Taliban, who were also trained by the United States , and those who survive will owe the United States and Europe a lot of money. But why am I saying this - now the US CIA has conducted an investigation and it turns out that the Russian Nord Stream pipelines were blown up by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny. Yes, yes, he is a villain, whom everyone in the West admired two months ago, he was shown as a talented commander who could defeat Russia. But what happened and why the United States is handing over its former hero to the chopping block. Yes, everything is simple - back in early May, Valery Zaluzhny was wounded and he is dying, but these clowns, in order to hide and not breed panic in the army, decided to maintain his social networks and periodically throw off videos with his participation as if he were alive and that's it he is fine, but remember how he could not come to the NATO meeting as they said because he was at the wedding, but it is not clear who and when. Campaign, his condition is critical and they won’t be able to use it anymore, so they decided who is to blame, who doesn’t care anymore. Here you have the true face of the United States - while you can be used, you are praised, but how you are no longer useful to you at an expense. Remember how the US fled with its tail between its legs from Afghanistan, as well as from Vietnam. It turns out that the heroic United States is not so terrible, THEY (the US government) are afraid to admit to the terrorist undermining of the Nord Stream pipelines, and in order not to be blamed, they will put the blame on anyone (no one is sorry). Oh yes, I forgot - you knew that the United States transported an additional, about 150 nuclear warheads to the European bases of the United States and Japan (the number is not known) and did not even inform the government of these countries and, of course, the population of these countries (Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium and Turkey). Well, who dares to check the US bases. The whole history of the United States is woven of lies, the United States brought a lot of blood and pain to the world, but the UN covers them, but I believe that all evil will someday be paid, but soon SODOM and GOMORRAH, the hotbed of evil and perversion will be cleansed by white flame and buried under a layer of ash.)))!!!

@@HCUK677 Except that costs of labour are quite different. That's why lots of cars in the West are written off and scrapped for minor reasons or exported to the East. I lived in the UK, and funny thing is it's so difficult to get spares eg for Rovers, that those cars are stolen for spares. In Poland it doesn't matter if it's a popular brand or something as unpopular as Rover. There are huge stations of legal dissasembly and even for unpopular cars, spares sit for months and years to be re-used. Not only it's cheaper or more ecological, but used components that were made for the car when it was first made in the factory, are generally higher quality, and often last longer than brand new replacement-ones available in stores.

It looks like the Soviet era BMP-2 was taken out of Russia’s long term storage by the amount of rust. They had to replace the engine and transmission just to drive it out of storage. They drove out of long term storage, drove it to the railroad depot, drove it to the front line, and then abandoning it; accounting for the 26 hrs runtime on the engine.

I was a platoon leader for a mechanized infantry, and I had 4 BMP-2 in my unit, this was in the year -99. II can tell you alot about them, but one thing is that they don't stand much chance against modern CV-90 or any tanks. They are pretty ok for moving infantry around, and giving cover fire etc. In the back, you are sitting in two rows, with the engine in the middle, and you back against it. It's pretty tight in there, and with my 1,92 cm it was a hassle getting in and out. The other thing is the rear doors. They are thick, and full with diesel, which makes them heavy as f**k. It was near impossible to open the doors from the inside if the driver stopped downhill, always something to consider.
