It is so amazing how difficult timing a good entry is on these range trades. It’s like the closest thing to impossible.

consider using a zone instead of a line, on each side of the range

I am trading the opposite of this formation. if it breaks the line down sell, if it breaks up buy. I do this in high volatility markets and in the morning hours.

One should check for pullbacks. Not only wait for the reentry in the range zone but ot wait for the retest. In some market that move is fairly noticeable.

I love range trading in crypto . I just draw support and resistance lines and have a envelope around a 8 EMA . When it hits the extremes of the envelop your in the trade .

Can you explain what you mean by "envelope around a 8 EMA"? Is this an indicator and 8 is the setting you use?

idea. ive seen price movement run up to a high range pull back and retest that high before the fall. same with its bottom range bounces. itll come down hard find its bottom range, bounce up retest that range below then shoot back up. thats also an idea to lower risk.

What I would do is take profit at the 61.8 Fib. because range bound market don't always go straight to the other side :)

Pretend we know nothing about TA and want to range trade stocks. Please be so kind and explain to us in the most simple and concise way possible as if you would explain it to a 10 year old, how you increase the odds of knowing when to enter and exit a trade in order to maximize profits as much as possible. Your help would mean the world to me because these pandemic years have been extremely traumatic and tragic for me as I lost numerous loved ones and to cope, I threw myself head first into learning about when to enter and exit trades in order to increase my odds to maximize profits so you can imagine how I feel. 🙏

I appreciate the idea of the partial take-profit at the range midpoint. Market fractality is a cast iron bitch. Many ranges can be divided into upper/lower half ranges. Or doubled above/below to project a larger potential range. All the market needs on any timeframe is a single complete swing high and low, to define a possible range limit. Then the last swing could fail, turn into a brief continuation flag, then extend in a measured move to extend (possibly double) the first leg -- in this context expanding the boundaries of the potentially forming range. The first swing is often the largest, sharpest, and most profitable -- but the hardest to spot because there's no immediate reference point for defining targets or reversal points. The third point (a single high or low defining the third point of the range) actually begins to show the range, but at that point still looks like the beginning of various possible non-range patterns (i.e. the third point is a potential point C in an ABCD pattern that can be distorted or continued with further legs into many named or described price patterns). By the fourth point, the range is clearly defined, and on most timeframes, aggressive traders have either frontrun both sides of the range to create a contracting pennant/triangle, or have punched through congestion to create confusing multiple tops and false breakout higher highs AND lower lows -- skewing the range for a single swing uptrend, downtrend, or broadening wedge. I like to think of what's described in the video as lower timeframe (LTF) trend trading (with a new trend) that constitutes a higher timeframe (HTF) trend reversal trade. e.g. H1 has been on a down leg of a range. Approaching an approximate range lower boundary, the current open H1 candle looks like a big bar candle. On M1, 15-30 candles begin to clearly show multiple smaller stair step bottoms and even a triangle or trendline break into 1-2 small M1 higher hi/lo swings. As more traders front run the next couple of large M1 bottoms, the H1 reversal is underway over several H1 candles. Good look at the realistic problems of finding (and keeping) entries into range extremes. Figuring this out is what turned me into a trend trader after long years lost chasing the retail dream of the perfect reversal trade.

Yes Range trading is the easiest trading to judge the strength of the market, Range is necessity before the market to decide which side to move either up or down. Range trading is the only path where maximum order buildups..Trendline or wave structure is nothing in the world of trading because price is not reflection of demand & supply price is the reflection of values..

Because you’re going back-n-forth on your chart, I don’t know if you’re saying there are multiple trades going on at the same time, or if you can open one trade, and have no other choice than to wait for the previous one to close.
