I put one of those red round adhesive pickups on my uke. It works too well in that it picks up surface noises from the uke brushing against my clothing or my finger touching the sound board. I have other ukes with factory-installed pickups that are piezoelectric sensors under the saddle. They don't pick up the surface noises like this adhesive one does. So if you're going to try the adhesive button pickup, attach it temporarily and try it before you make a permanent adhesion.

That's a great tip, thanks for sharing! 😊 When I had the red round pickup one, I did use it on the outside for a while before having it installed, but I can't remember if I had a similar problem... I think that type of mics are really meant to be inside, not outside. But like you said, you just have to try it and see what placement works best.

Cool, let us know how it goes if/when you finally get electrified!

One tip for people is that pickups that have batteries are called active pickups, and without batteries are passive pickups. I have had issues at some open mics that passive pickups were too quiet, and the sound guy had to really crank the gain high to have it heard, which resulted in not great sounds quality. If you have a passive pickup, you "may" need to use an active DI (which the sound guy probably won't have) to get better sound.

@@FrankMattheus that's great info, thanks! Yes, come to think of it, the passive one I use needs to be "cranked" more.
