so which is the “correct way”? i keep being told using my thumb is wrong when my finger keeps getting caught on the strings when i try to strum.

There’s no right or wrong. As Captain Jack Sparrow said, “the only rules are what a man can and can’t do.” Just keep trying different things until something feels right. You can even use a pick although people will hate on you for it. Who cares what anyone else thinks.

Strumming is sooooo hard for me it’s frustrating, for some reason I can do it going down but when I go up it doesn’t work right. Oh well I’ll keep trying 😅 this video is very helpful

When strumming up using your nail how do you do that? Use the thumb nail??

I’m sorry to hear that! It’s hard to give advice without hearing/seeing what you’re doing. Maybe you’re playing the wrong fret or string? Are you sure you tuned it to the correct notes? I have a beginner series for the ukulele that can possibly help you. Best of luck!

It’s a really cheap Hilo brand from Walmart. I don’t recommend it to be honest

How much pressure we have to apply on string….as sometimes my fingers hits end string forcefully and I skip some string in between…

Only use enough pressure to make the string ring out and not buzz. If you are muting other strings most likely that’s because you need to use your finger tips so that the pad of your fingers isn’t touching and muting other strings.

Theres another way i use 4 of my fingers to down and only thumb to strum up basically the secound struming pattern he showed but keeping the hand loose
