Really hoping for the same! But if not frets are easy enough to rip out. Just glue in veneers, finish the fretboard with thin CA glue & presto! But hoping they save us the hassle!

First off thank you so much for this video presentation and for the record; years past when the Kala Uke Bass were introduced to the world of music, I asked Mr. Mike Upton (founder and owner of Kala Brand Music Company) by way of KZbin communication, if by any chance he would design a Kala Uke electric bass guitar similar to a standard electric bass with standard passive pickups, bridge & machine head tuners, but his answer was quote "It Can't Be Done Because of the Rubber Bass Strings it Uses" unquote. Unfortunately that was the end of my conversation and the idea went south (meaning - declined). Well now I probably believe Mr. Upton took heed and thought it may be a great idea years later until now which I'm glad and excited he made a breakthrough but I WON'T TAKE CREDIT FOR MY SUGGESTION! True story, nuff said!!!

What do you think of some of the less expensive U-Basses? I and some friends have Donner for example, do you think some of the less expensive brands are worthwhile?

Great question and not an easy one to answer. One of my favourite bass ukes is “Pinky” which was a cheap one, it’s a great instrument made better by putting on better strings and better tuners. It’s more difficult to answer because sometimes the cheaper ones can be good with a set up and bit of work and I suppose that is why they are cheaper. I’ve been playing the Harley Benton a lot recently ready to do a full review, lots of positives but a few jiggly things that I will have to look at but then you could by at least 5 of these for 1 California U-Bass. I’m starting to ramble, this might be a good topic for a live vid actually!

Rachel: the moment I saw the 'new' U-Bass it put me in mind of the MOSRITE VENTURES BASS made in the 1960s. The body shape is not identical, but there's a strong resemblance. BTW on the Reverb resale site, someone is selling one of those for $5,000.

It wouldn't surprise me if they did a natural ash color, or perhaps a vintage cream. I can't imagine they'll do metal fleck again, but I hope they do. Or at least a sheen-y gold.

What’s the difference for U bass that is like a solid body electric bass & a fender mini precision or J ? Tuning the same, is scale different.

Great question Vince. The tuning is the same, the pickups in this case are like precision but the scale (an overall length) is much shorter at 23 1/2” compared to the regular 34” 👍

I've been playing Yamaha 6 string fretted and fretless for 20 years... Who makes a 6 string (steel string) version that looks like an electric bass?
