I had to dub over the 2005 webcam scene featured during the intro because some record companies wanted to be dicks about copyright regarding the House Of Pain song 'Jump Around'. So, the joke is somewhat lacking it's original context (because that webcam footage is literally me from 2005 dancing like an idiot to the aforementioned House Of Pain song), but it is what it is. Fuck 'em, carry on.

I'd like to believe that when ulala says "when have i ever lost... At dancing" is more of a way for ulala to say "when was the last time I gave up" rather than boasting, dancing is her power rather than an action. She uses her view rating not just as energy but also purpose as a diva and more importantly a hero.

10:26 I'm the director of the Sonic Riders Competitive Mod and the team and I were working on HD textures for the character models. Something about Ulala didn't feel right.. I just couldn't pinpoint anything though. I said to myself, "Why doesn't she pop? I'm pretty sure she's supposed to." We questioned if it was the color choice from her first game that made her appearance what it was, but then I immediately thought back to this video and watched the design section again. Your detailed reasoning for her design was hitting all the notes as to why it felt jarring. So we reverted Ulala's outfit in Riders back to deep orange and it looks fantastic, even complimenting the game's simple lighting engine! Thank you so much!

Thank You. I've got to say Ulala is one of my favourite characters of all time. Not because of nostalgia but because I enjoy the flamboyant/retro style that Ulala and the Space Chanel 5 games offer and I understood that was both a serious attempt and a parody of the 60s sci-fi scene. And it was also my birthday today so it was a nice surprise :)

I guess it's the "dance *for him*" part that make's Purge's plan evil. I mean everyone kinda dances a lot in this universe already, he just wanted to be the one who sets all the beats out and put himself at the top. Also he's of the school of thought where "if things can't be my way they cant exist at all" and tries to destroy the Universe when things start going pear shaped at the end of Part 2

Am I the only one thinking about what it would be if Parappa and Ulala crosses paths. And yes I know the both belong to different companies, but it could be possible. I mean if we could get a crossover game of Mario and Rabbids, what’s stopping mankind from doing a crossover of Parappa and Ulala. Other than the fact they both haven’t been given any time back in the public eye. And no, I’m not including Parappa’s remaster on PS4.

Glad you put in a pic connecting Space Channel 5 with MJ's Scream music video. Fun fact: In that music video there are monitors showing the main character from the Tatsunoko anime Zillion. Taking that further, there were 2 Zillion games on the Sega Master System. The first one was amazing to me as a kid; it was a great Metroidvania. Anyway, there's another MJ/Sega connection... Kind of.

So I've been playing Part 2 recently on Steam. I had already watched this video prior and have seen Ulala around in crossover appearances for years but having actually gotten my hands on one of the titles to witness SC5's charm firsthand. I gotta say it has easily become one of my favorite Sega franchises and gaming franchises as a whole now. This series has so much love and energy put into it, and while its unexpectedly very challenging, I haven't felt as much hype for completing parts of a game as i do this one in a VERY long time. The ppl you rescue marching and dancing alongside you, how the music and victory moments change depending on how many you saved, the instrument face offs, the different outfits, getting the poses right at the end if a segment, the primary supporting cast like Pudding, Pine and Space Michael, literally everything about Reports 4 and 5 (battle of the bands genuinely one of the hypest moments of gaming idc lol) its all so energizing. And i feel that was the devs' goal, to get the player in the groove for lack of a better term. Its no wonder i tend to play it best when my body is subconsciously moving with the beats. Ulala has now become one of the quintessential figures of gaming for me personally, if we're talking Sega, she's only behind the blue blur himself for me. I'm glad the series is back with Kinda Funky News Flash (worth a Who Dat Again in the future maybe? Lol). I absolutely look forward watching more of this awesome Report Show.

I'm pretty sure Purge was just a fuckin nut who wanted pure chaos and destruction. His major goal over the course of the game is to assemble his mega death ray thingy, and once he gets it fully charged, he doesn't force people to dance, he just tries to blow the shit out of everything. The most obvious bit here is when he's attempting to fire and everyone's using their Groove Energy to stop it, when he says, "dance yourselves to hell, see if I care!". Purge just wants to fuck shit up bruv.
