How safe are these extensions, though?
@AwesomeOpenSource
@AwesomeOpenSource 5 ай бұрын
As safe as any extension for anything. I mean, it's one of those neverending questions. Install one at a time, then see how it works. Run an outgoing firewall like OpenSnitch, and make sure those extensions aren't doing things you don't want them to.

? I have Ubuntu 22.04 on 2 PC... Now being an I.D.10.T. PC user... Trying 2 stop adverts while watching KZbin in my Firefox Browser... I added AdBlock;... Enhancer 4 KZbin & Sound Effects 2;... add-ons 2 both PC's... ... Now my dilemma is I have somehow broken my ability 2 search on 1 PC only & don't know what I did 2 break it... I can C the search box at the top with the Magnifying Glass 2 the right hand side;... but I can't type any text in the box... The other PC works fine...

Only thing I can suggest is turn off those extensions one at a time, and see if that resolves the issue. If not, then maybe test with a different browser to see if it's the browser or the OS itself.

@@AwesomeOpenSource ... Kind of strange but it worked... Even though both PC have Firefox only one KZbin was broken... Turning of 1 extension 1 at a time with a complete shut down in-between... Search came back after disabled AdBlock the 1 with a White Hand in a Red 7 side... ... AdBlock - best ad blocker (disabled) Block ads and pop-ups on KZbin, Facebook, Twitch, and your favorite websites... Many Thanks... PS Love your channel...

I want to ask that I am having hard time setting up reverse proxy for my home lab. I want to forward applications hosted on private ip to my static ip. I have router in between and my every changes failed till now. Using cloudflare for forwarding subdomain. I am not sure what am I doing wrong. Any suggestions or any old video link of yours which can help??

Are you asking how to use subdomains only on your LAN? Or you have a static public IP from your ISP?
@PapaSharmaJi
@PapaSharmaJi Жыл бұрын
@@AwesomeOpenSource Both actually. I forwarded a subdomain ns from cloudflare on an internal dns server. I used that dns server on nginx proxy manager server and domain works internally, but traffic doesn't goes outside. I am not sure what is wrong. using ubiquiti edgerouter also.

@@PapaSharmaJi Let's break this down to the basics to understand how this works. First is the IP addresses. You have an external and an internal IP address, your external IP will only reach your gateway device (router/firewall). and an internal address will communicate to everything behind the gateway device. Your gateway device handles the communication between the 2. Second is domains and DNS, a domain is simply a name that represents an IP (or group of IPs). A DNS simply translates a domain name to said IP address, basically a phone book. An external DNS cannot resolve an internal IP, it can only resolve external IP addresses. So when you purchase a domain name you are purchasing the right to determine where those names go in the public world. To resolve internal addresses in your network you need an internal DNS server of some sort. So to route an external domain name to an internal server or service, you have the external domain route to your public IP address, you then need to tell your router how to handle that specific traffic, you do this with Port Forwarding. So you port forward port 80 (HTTP) and port 443 (HTTPS) to your reverse proxy. Then depending on what subdomain was forwarded it then forwards the traffic to the appropriate server internally. To have the reverse proxy work internally you simply have your internal DNS route to the reverse proxy as well. This is a high level overview, there are a lot of nuances depending on make and model of the gateway device and DNS used. It sounds like you don't have the ports forwarded correct on the gateway device. This is why it works internally and not externally, if it is a web service make sure you forward ports 80 and 443 in the EdgeRouter. Port forwarding is also known as NATing. I would start there and see if it works.

@@Shadowdragon132 That's the mistake I was making. I forwarded port 80 and 443 to the webserver directly. I will now forward ports to proxy manager and route traffic from there. Thank You very much for help. I will let you know however it goes.
