Pretty sure this was their first show in about 2years coming out of covid. As someone else mentioned, the studio version is excellent. I'm sure there are better live versions, but I'll have to hunt for it.

Great song. Maybe next tour we'll get some quality H2O recordings. They're rarer than a unicorn. For now you'll need to check out the album version first then hit the live most times.

It's Arte Concerts that did the production, and if you happened to watch any of their previous shows, some of the audio there was not great either. Hellfest 2022 comes to mind for certain shows. They definitely could learn from Wacken as to how you record audio properly at one of these festivals.

I'm guessing this is on purpose. I've checked out Pinkpop 2022 shows of Floor, Nightwish, Metallica a.o. and that soundquality also was not exactly a peakperformance. They used to do a lot better. Most likeley is all about the copyrights... 🤷‍♂

The 2022 Alcatraz festival seemed to have two very different recording crews. UTA and Jinjer both suffered from some of the worst soundboard work I've heard in a while... You know I'm not one to badmouth folks who are trying their hardest, but I don't think the crew understood you don't shelve EVERYTHING about 400 Hz... After smashing it with a compressor that crushes the life outta the music. (geee, tell us what you REALLY think, Randy) But it's still UTA getting some facetime in front of a good-sized Euro festival audience. It will be very interesting to see if Ayreon does another tour in a year or so (after this new album is out.) Having Brittney's face in front of the Euro crowd would make her a natural for both her song AND any missing-vocalist fill ins. ... please, let's have her do some upper range duet work with Marcela Bovio and Michael Mills. And finally : Brittney's high B... notice how far away she holds the mic... it must be a loaner and she didn't want to pay for damages. That is a piercing stunner of a note.

By far my favourite song of the "Abyss" album 🤘 Unfortunately the sound-mix was total crap and here is fan-shot footage on a mobile way better than Alcatraz. Nevertheless thanks for your reaction to this epic masterpiece!

I've just given you a thumbs up, not for this really annoying sound of this live take, BUT for your beautiful, beautiful collection of wonderful guitars at your wall! wouldn't you like to make a video just to introduce all these beauties to us? I mean this at least "half-serious"...And to UTA: One of my actual favorites is still "Awakening" with all these catchy Harmonies, Brittneys incredible voice and the virtuosity of all members of the band. Keep on going!

The band themselves do not particularly like how they sound for this. They did not have their own sound guy, their in ears were not working properly, and of course it was their first live outing in 2 years. I thought they sounded great but the band are perfectionists. There are some vids from their USA tour later in the year kicking around and some of them are incredible.
