BRS is by far the best solution for learning about reefing. I plan on starting my first tank ever once I’ve saved up enough to get the setup I would like. I started watching BRS videos about 1 1/2-2 years ago and quickly learned I had a ton to learn! Thanks for all the videos and tireless effort BRS. Hope my tank dreams come true this year. Haha

Love You BRS! Would be totally lost without you guys! Thanks for all your videos! They have helped me alot in many areas of the hobby I was lacking and had questions. I have 7 saltwater tanks in my aqua lounge (dedicated saltwater room) and I have been collecting all the equipment I would need from you guys for over 3 years now for a custom 400 gallon build. The time needed to collect the list of items I would need has taught me much patience because I had research ahead and save up for each item. The 400 gallon is an absolutely beautiful setup that I have dreamed of for years and planned out for a long time. The time has now come that I will finally be putting water in it this next week to check my plumbing/system for leaks. Need one more Gyre XF280 when the stock comes in, then will be adding a UV from you guys in a couple of months after the biological filtration is thoroughly established. I can't thank you enough!!!

My significant other that doesn’t care about my tank, loves the way you do your videos!!! Amazing info in a few minutes!! When it comes to dosing next week, I say dosing pumps for softie and LPS and a calcium reactor for the SPS tank. But.... you can probably run all 3 tanks with 1 calcium reactor... omg!! Is that the surprise? 😱😱😱😱😱

Loving this series, personal I was torn when setting up my 120g aquarium between Vortech MP and the Gyre ... ultimately I went with the Vortech pumps for the obvious reasons you guys pointed out. But Honestly, I also believe that the size of the aquarium and the corals you're keeping play the biggest role in this decision (Coral health, first).

Gotta say your observation of the power surprised me, I would think if it got gunked up it would pull more power because it has to fight against more to spin.

Gave me an idea of running a third Gyre down low in my bare bottom tank to prevent detritus build up. Tank is 6 x 2.5 x 2.5. Vortechs would be a better option but I already have some spare Gyres sitting here.

The gyre does give u extra cages and blades , but easily gets slowed down between cleaning, and u have to put the “A” cage on the “A” side, they look the same but aren’t!

Calcium & Alkalinity -- I've always been a fan of Kalk. I run it even when the tank gets hungrier and I need to add other methods. That said, I don't like any of the commercial Kalk reactors on the market and without one, it can require pretty frequent (albeit easy and quick) maintenance. My biggest complaint on the commercial models is the MTBF of the motors, even when put on a timer. A reliable stirrer-reactor that you trust, possibly DIY, tied to an auto top-off with sufficient safety mechanisms to reduce the chance of catastrophe is a thing of beauty though. As a perk, the media is dirt cheap. Moving on, let's face it, calcium reactors are for tinkerers. There's the potential to go long stretches of time without needing to touch it, but when you do need to... oh boy. I wouldn't call them low maintenance at all. On the plus side... While they're not really ULM in my opinion, if you're a gear junkie and love to tinker with your tank, it hardly gets better than this. If you go this route, it pays to pay for quality. Dosing is an attractive option. Your maintenance interval is essentially limited to your reservoir capacity plus monitoring and adjusting timings on dosing pumps. With a hungry enough tank you will run into rising NaCl levels, but an automated water change setup could be paired to keep that in check. You'd just mix your replacement water a little leaner on the salt, monitor and adjust. If an install permits, I think this is the hands down winner for ULM. ... At the end of the day, I'm still a Kalk *and* person rather than a Kalk *or* person, and wouldn't run a tank without it. All of that has to be tempered with the realities of your install. *BONUS* (This is incredibly dangerous. You will melt yourself like the Joker and kill your livestock. Don't follow my advise!) Disclaimer out of the way, when mixing Kalk in bulk, for every liter you want to make (1) add between 5 and 30 mL distilled white vinegar (5% acetic acid) to your container. Mix your first batch low and monitor your tank, only increasing as needed. (2) Dissolve 1/2 tsp Calcium Hydroxide in the vinegar. Be super careful. Wear safety gear. (3) Dilute with RO/DI water to target volume. Why? * More Calcium and Bicarbonate ions in solution * Reduces precipitation * The leftover Acetate breaks down into organic carbon to feed the bacteria that eat nitrates and fart NO2 It is win-win-win. I'd love to make it look like there's a wave that goes through every so often, though not with the wobbly surface a wavebox makes. Is there a preset on the Vortechs that could simulate that?
@BRStv Жыл бұрын
Not necessarily a pre-set available, but with the right number of pumps and placement, you could probably make that happen. Of course, the surface would inevitably move at least a little bit as the flow pushes across the tank.
@lisafoster4468 Жыл бұрын
@@BRStv Thanks! I did see the effect once in an LFS = wonder if they'd remember that tank if I asked them how to do it? It's been over a decade, I think - and a little wave did push across the top when it happened so I was expecting that. It's just when it starts wobbling like jello that I get worried XD Maybe it was a short gyre pulse and I should get one of those for the effect...hmm.Anyway, thank you! n_n
