Trident is the most ulm thing in this reefing world. Testing and controllers, are just an amazing combo!👍🔥✅✅

You guys should start carrying the GHL Kh director. It does the same thing as the Trident, albeit only for alkalinity. Ideal for those who want to automate testing only the most crucial element of the 3. The major difference is that it has been available for some time now and you only need to add a doser, not an entire expensive controller system like with the Apex. BRS should really spotlight GHL more since most people here don't realize there is an alternative company to Neptune Apex.

Beautiful setups man... Only got a tropical tank at the moment, but if I ever decide to delve into a reef tank, i'll be using your videos as guides :P

Almost crashed my two tanks by running too clean. Zero phosphate and nitrate. I lost some really nice chalices. I pulled the phosphate remover and things look much better. Water changes and NoPox are working great.

Stumbled across the tank trials vids.... never tried a salt tank/ or been interested , simply cause I couldn't commit to the effort required... but wow the knowledge and explanation in this series is exceptional, and I can't help but watch the vids moving forward. One day i hope to utilise these and have a ulm salt tank... but for now does anyone know of a series somewhat like this for freshwater tanks???
@ih8ubarney3226 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply, and keep it up 👍👍👍👍 your making me want a salt tank big time..... also from a freshwater perspective I've experienced the benefits of uv sterilisation and am hanging out for your perspective on that... would love you to compare a high end "call it commercial spec" vs the low end "usually sold as pond uv clarifier" so see if similar results can be obtained.. there in Australia a 25w commercial twist spec is around $650! While a similar wattage 24w pond clarifier is only $250, but you could also get a 72w pond clarifier for $500.... I understand they aren't designed to do the same job, but can similar results be achieved passing water through a larger cheaper product by using slower flow rates

What about calibration and verification of the trident unit? spot checks may be in order. Nerfing Revana! I am excited about this as well.

I was under the impression that if you stored saltwater long term in a big container like that it would eventually get unclean, maybe a bacteria bloom or something. Is that accurate? How often will that container need to be cleaned if it all?
@jasongarcia32766 жыл бұрын
Mike Orlando You should keep it stirring. Like any water it goes stale if it isn’t constantly being stirred
@Mike__B6 жыл бұрын
Second comment (easier to do two posts), some salts seem to have "issues" with being stored often the alkalinity reading of a fresh made batch plummets a noticeable amount when stored for any length of time (greater than a week). How wide spread is this issue really? I've seen testing of salt mixes but they're always done after a fresh batch is mixed up to 35ppt, never after sitting in a holding container for a month.

Hi, I have changed over to NSW, so, do I need to do as many water changes as with man made salt water mixes ? I have found my soft corals are doing much better since I have changed to NSW.

When u guys gonna compare the ati icp test to triton, that one tests nitrates, so no test kits!!
@Mike__B6 жыл бұрын
A couple comments first how much is the Trident system going to end up costing? I mean you need to have not only an Apex but the newest Apex, there's the cost of the unit, then the cost of the reagents. Now I realize this is an expensive hobby, and some might argue that they already have the newest Apex but how close are we getting to just hiring a service company to do all the maintenance/testing on a monthly basis?
@ryanbatcheller3946 жыл бұрын
Really all perspective. It is a million miles from a requirement, just a cool upgrade. I think this is true of almost any hobby. A woodworker could certainly pay to have a chair made and its likely cheaper than buying all the tools but thats not a much of a hobby :)
@Mike__B6 жыл бұрын
I get what you're saying, but you start pushing to the point of having everything automated anyways, all you're doing is changing out testing reagent and refilling your 3 part solution with very little input on your side. So to use your analogy, our woodworker is buying an Ikea chair and he's just putting it together as "building"
@ryanbatcheller3946 жыл бұрын
Less so an Ikea chair and more so a dust removal system for the shop : ) I'd like to think of it as removing the parts of the hobby where I have limited value so I can spend time where I do. If something can perform testing for me I have more time to do something with the results.

Ryan What kind of fish is that in the time line 12:30
@MarzThe76 жыл бұрын
3% water change per day for 30 days only replace ~60% of the original water, similarly effective as a 60% one time water change, if you do the math.
@MarzThe76 жыл бұрын
But every time you do the water change, you also change 3% of the fresh "clean" water that you just put in the tank the day before. After one 3% change, 97% of the "dirty" water is still in the tank, two will be 0.97^2=0.94, 94% of the "dirty" water will not be replaced. After 30days of 3% changes that number will be 0.97^30=0.40. So 40% of the original water will still be in there, not super efficient to me.

About the triton ICP-OES that triton does. First of all, there has never been, an probably wont be during our life time, a measurement that is 100% accurate. Any analyst will tell you that. ICP-OES is a nice way of testing things, but I question their results even though it's an accredited lab. No correlation factors provided. No match data for standards. No information about wavelenghts used for elemental identification. Nothing. Furthermore, testing same water triton tasted using ICP-MS, while more labor intensive, yields me very different results with elements where I doubt them not being able to measure different isotopes would matter. But doing it myself I know exactly the possible inaccuracies. End of it is that I think that the product they sell is crap and reef aquarists would be better off contacting their local universities and setting up a deal with some broke grad student.
