Beautiful to see the culture still alive in donegal despite hundreds of years of emigration and neighbourhood murder

Strange bunch indeed, their dances and music and dress is very alien and I wasn't prepared for it being from the republic. I assumed this only existed in NI, but apparently they exist in Donegal too. Hefty people, I can see why they made such good soldiers in the British empire at stamping out rebellions.

Irish patriot Bard I recently received my Ancestry dna test results. It came back as 10 percent Ireland and large percentage Scotland. my great grandparents were from fermanagh which I knew and have seen long ago other members of family were from Tyrone Enniskillen and Donegal. So now I understand originally long ago that they migrated from Scotland. very fascinating to learn this. Kathy in Hemet California.

@@kathypetersen4694 They were probably British colonists in Ireland from the ulster plantations. Do you know when they immigrated to the u.s? What would you consider yourself? or what were you hoping to find out? Always interesting stuff, I also am skeptical of online dna tests.

No not that far back yet. I thought my biological mothers grandparents were full irish as my grandfather came from Fermanagh in 1837 to New York and his wife was from Enniskillen. So I researched after seeing I have majority Scottish. I've heard aboit the large migrations before from Scotland to Ireland and kinda forgot that Veitch I saw searching that surname alot of Scotland came up. My Great grandfathers name was William Veitch from Fermanagh Ireland. his first wife was Matilda or Margaret Moffit. I can't remember have to look at my genealogy papers. His 2nd wife who was her niece William married afyer her death. Her last name was bird/byrd. You can google William Veitch. and his photo is on there. Thanks for responding to my post.

@@kathypetersen4694 Largeish migration to NI, not the rest of ireland, 500,000 people in NI ancestry comes from scottush colonists. Yup those surnames are not very Irish, I personally wont ever take a DNA test you will always end up disappointed haha. Your grand parents thought of themselves as Irish so clearly it was important to them, Identify as whatever you want.

Yes I hace a friend in Florida whi was adopted as a baby and he said he doesn't need to know who bio parents are or relatives. I was adopted too at 3 months of age. Knew about bio mothers ancestry and names on her side after meeting her cousins when I was 23. she only gave a name of the father. And..guess what I found a first cousin who submitted to ancestry. I also saw a photo of my bio father by looking at the cousins tree. Just want to see photos I will not contact the man. He lices in Toronto and this 2nd cousin is a professor in Calgary so that was unexpected and kind of interesting. It works becayse saw cousins on her side there too. You won't seee anyone if they did not take and mail back the ancestry kit. Thanks for letting me ramble on. Ha
