Catholic Unionist here, come from a mixed Ulster Scots, Native Irish and English family. Agreed there should be no Nationalism in Ulster, and understand the fear of Ulster Scots of what happened in 1922. However, that does not mean one can be Native Irish Catholic, and support the Union too. Many Irish Catholic Unionist moved to Northern Ireland after the Handover. Ulster Prots are Catholic Unionists salvation, and while most Unionist are Prots, it is not exclusive, we should always remember that. Even at the height of the Troubles, there were still Loyalist Catholics, and there always will be.

@BemusedBarfly Why did they force Catholics to flee? Was it out of fear for the IRA which exterminated the Anglo-Irish in the South which according to Wikipedia, was ethnic cleansing, and since the ethnic group was wiped out, is obviously genocide?

@BemusedBarfly Everyone who was left in the South, that was loyal to Britain, is dead or brainwashed. Anyone who still supported British rule fled like John Gorman, the Catholic Unionist MLA for tje Ulster Unionist Party. Starting in 1918, the IRA started a campaign of terror against Irish Catholic Unionist and murdered them. The Anglo-Irish were killed in the "War against the Big Houses". Those who remained were forced to assimilate into Irish society, flee to Northern Ireland or England.

@BemusedBarfly There are Protestants in the South of Ireland and right next to us in Donegal. Why aren't they Unionist? They were told to either support the IRA or die, and their children were taught a view of history filled with nothing but rumor, speculation, all out lies, and things taken out of context. THAT is what the Protestants feared in 1918-1925, they were REACTING to the violence caused by the IRA, who fired the FIRST shots of the war, against POLICE officers, and assassinated anyone with LOYALIST views.
