It looks beautiful. I just wish I had the money, time, and extra space in which to store it.

Super cool car I own a 280 SLC with 8930 miles (14300 km) from new, and a 450 SLC 5.0, both outstanding representations of Mercedes Benz quality workmanship.

I absolutely confirm your description as I own a 450 slc from 1979 in perfect condition

That is stunning - they don't make them like that any more! The SL equivalent from this generation is iconic. Love these reviews

If you are thinking of purchasing an SL or SLC OTHER THAN the 560SL check the front subframe for cracking. There was a MBZ open recall in 1985 for these cars. The cracks can lead to the wheels falling off - a very serious event.

I am looking at a 450 slc from 1973...is there a problem with these?

Great video! These cars were so good that they made them for nearly 20 years!

I love the SLC. When I was a child a church member had one and it was very impressive and posh at the time. I personally think that colour is one of the least suitable for it. In blue, silver and other conservative colours it enhances the lines.

I used to see these wonderful cars when I was at school. Even then I thought they were just fantastic. Beautiful design from Paul Bracq. Thank you for another informative and enjoyable video and a great classic Mercedes-Benz 👍🏾

Not Paul Bracq !!! The designers: Joseph Gallitzendörfer; Friedrich Geiger en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_R107_and_C107

Thanks for treating this car with respect by soft closing the doors/bonnet etc. I recently saw a review of an antique Mercedes Gull-wing worth over $1m and the reviewer was slamming the doors/bonnet etc and treating this gem with contempt. Pratt ! I see this vehicle is advertised for sale in NSW for $39,000 including the number plates. Shame it has some rust beneath the SLC450 emblem on the boot. Also some small wooden inserts on the dash are missing which should be easy to repair. Otherwise a pretty clean car.

Another excellent video. I have nearly bought one of those Mercedes’ Coups many times but at the time I thought the 8 series BMW s were better. I’m long retired now but when I was working I had a really good car allowance and bought my wife a new Mercedes sl320 , the first with the V6 engine. Kept it 6 weeks!! Like driving a tank! Part exchanged it for a new BMW Z 8…….why did I not keep that Z8! sold it 5 years later for the same price I paid for it but if only I had kept it. My run around Mercedes’ now is a low mileage 2003 CLK 500 and I think it is the best value second hand car I have ever bought. Looking forward to your next video,8

Hmm, interesting there’s still so much affection for the SLC. My wife had one in the nineties when we got together, it was just a big barge. Didn’t handle particularly well, it’s a lot of weight to move around, not particularly roomy yet it’s a big car on the road. They use an astonishing amount of fuel and there isn’t much performance. Their main attribute was for longer journeys on the highway and we used to go up to Noosa most weekends and it rode beautifully on its longer wheelbase and just speaker up the undulations. She ultimately ditched it for a lovely BMW 1986 635CSI which she kept for 14 years. Mercedes of that era up to the early nineties were beautifully made cars, built to last a lifetime if properly maintained. I’m presently in the market for a 1990 560 SEL which would be a better choice frankly. Similar money now to buy and maintain, similar fuel useage but far more practical.

Lovely example. I have warmed up to these. ONLY the Euro version with the small bumpers. The US version's large bumpers don't work for me. Question, does this euro version model year have a single-row timing chain?

Very nice car. Great colour combination. mercedes of this era was technically 10-15 years ahead of their competitors. that's why this old benzes drive so well, even on modern standards. i guess this is icon gold (ikonengold) metallic. only thing i don't like are the awful aftermarket chrome clasps above the wheel arches. also they are often the reason for rust.

Yes icon gold - those chrome trims are so common they almost look like they’re standard…
@ronalddean36302 ай бұрын
Agreed, these are an invitation to rust. I would remove them if I had it.

Why dont Mercedes make cars like this anymore.Generally not a fan of German cars,but like old Mercs ,and even as a Jaguar man,I think these are so stylish.Just like an XJ6,there is not an angle these dont look good from.

I’ve always liked this car, except for the wide chrome strips above the wheels. They’re like stick on products from the local cheap auto store.
@ronalddean36302 ай бұрын
The only time these work is on the 1960's 600 coupe and limousine. Why? Because the chrome runs all the way around the vehicle. It looks amazing
