Albo’s Com Car definitely aint one. Bowen trundles around in one when the photo op arrives. On another matter related to alternative energy, I’ve seen recently that Iran has about 18 Nuclear power stations, but here in Oz, Albo says it’s a fantasy to Nuclear power generation. Iran being mostly desert, why isn’t it covered in wind turbines & solar panels? Albo, you’re an idealog, you have the power to change your mind and policy. Be brave, you just might get another term next year.

@@gerbre1 1. There is no such thing as a 'fossil car'. All ICE cars can be run on countless different fuels. My family members have been driving on NEXBTL biodiesel for nearly a decade, with the price only a few cents per litre more than normal diesel...all while paying huge amounts of taxes (the manufacturer pays huge taxes on its profits too) and not requiring subsidies or tax breaks. 2. ICE cars are already cleaner than EVs when run on fossil fuels, and when you increase the percentage of 'sustainable' fuel into the mix they become *_vastly_* cleaner than EVs could ever hope to be. 3. ICE cars are not only massively cheaper overall, but their sales and use produces incredible amounts of tax revenue. Evs are the opposite: require trillions in tax money for the hundreds of different kinds of subsidies, tax breaks, and infrastructure works...while benefitting nobody and bankrupting society. Bankrupt societies can no longer invest in effective environmental projects.

That's what got us into this nightmare situation. Many European Manufacturers have been researching and producing limited EVs for many years in the belief Fossil Fuels will run out eventually. It was costing them big money for no worthwhile return, so they got into EU politicians ears about subsidising small EVs. Unfortunately for them the EU politicians took this idea and started running full pelt into this insanity. Don't feel sorry for that manufacturers as they unintentionally started this crap.

“CO2 for different people has different attractions. After all, what is it? - it’s not a pollutant, it’s a product of every living creature’s breathing, it’s the product of all plant respiration, it is essential for plant life and photosynthesis, it’s a product of all industrial burning, it’s a product of driving ‚ I mean, if you ever wanted a leverage point to control everything from exhalation to driving, this would be a dream. So it has a kind of fundamental attractiveness to bureaucratic mentality.” - Richard S. Lindzen, Ph.D. Professor of Atmospheric Science, MIT Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is not pollution and Global Warming has nothing to do with pollution. The average man, woman and child has been misled and is confused about what the current Global Warming debate is about, greenhouse gases. None of which has anything to do with air pollution. People are confusing Smog, Carbon Monoxide (CO) and the pollutants in car exhaust with the life supporting, essential trace gas in our atmosphere, Carbon Dioxide (CO2). Pollution is already regulated under the Clean Air Act and regulating Carbon Dioxide (CO2) will do absolutely nothing to make the air you breath “cleaner”. Regulating Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions through either ‘Carbon Taxes’, ‘Cap and Trade’ or the EPA will cause energy prices _[electricity, gasoline, diesel fuel, propane, heating oil etc...]_ to skyrocket.

10 years ago, I bought a Subaru Liberty for $40,000 and earlier this year disposed of it for $15,000. That's $25,000 in depreciation over 10 years or $2,500 per year. If I purchase a new EV for, say,$60,000 and if it's worth, say, $5,000 after 10 years, that's $55,000 in depreciation or $5,500 per year. The extra $3,000 per year would be more than the excess of petrol costs over electricity costs. Not to mention the inconvenience, fire risk, higher insurance and tyre costs, anxiety, etc. I thought long and hard about buying an EV. For about five seconds!

I actually have a colleague who is really pleased with his EV. He bought used Tesla model 3, I think 3 years ago, and sold his diesel Mercedes. He pretty much only drives to and home from work, 40 km one way, and he owns detached house with own yard and stuff, so he can recharge at home easily. The Merc had constant problems with clogging DPF because he drove so little on the highway car couldn't regenerate the filter. For longer road trips they use his wife's petrol Toyota. So EVs can work 1) if you have to use car for daily short trips and 2) have ability to charge it home (and have a proper car as a backup for longer trips). Not a poor mans game, this EV nonsense is.

You sound very convincing…I will keep my v6 Mercedes diesel SUV for little longer then and the money I would lose on depreciation on a new EV I will use to service the diesel car..won’t have to worry about charging or range anxiety….as someone else wrote, if EVs were the tech breakthrough, there would be no need for global coercive measures…I see governments heavily subsidising EVs and at the same time making extremely expensive to own an ICE or even soon banning them…the tail-tale is there…EVs are a big con…

I had a succession of diesels, was happy with the performance and the economy. So when it came time to replace it, I naturally considered another diesel (at the time we already had an EV in the family for short trips so it had to be an ICE). Hybrids hadn’t really developed at this time so I started researching what I would buy. More and more I found that I would be demonised and punished if I bought another diesel so I felt pushed towards petrol which is what I ended up buying. And how did this help the environment - well rather than buy a 120g/km diesel, I ended up with a 192g/km petrol - well done UK Government, you played yourself.

What’s happening in the UK regarding insurance, is that the insurers don’t feel they pass on the full liability to EV owners so are spreading it across all cars. So what we are seeing is massive hikes in the cost of insuring petrol and diesel cars to cover the increased risks associated with EV cars.

I had a look at sales figures in Australia for each EV in September just gone.........only the Tesla model Y and model S (is it?) Sold more than about 300 each. If that's typical for their monthly volume, then it's pretty woeful. In their prime, Commodore, Falcon and Magna easily cleared about 4000 each. People just don't want these things. Currently, Hilux, Ranger and RAV4 hybrid sell about 3 or 4 thousand per month by comparison. Mind you, there's lots of individual EV models on the market now vying for a slice of our rather small pie, but petrol and hybrid vehicles are quite clearly what people aspire to.

I once had one of those EVangelicals claim essentially every maintenance item an EV needed was expendables, but that wasn't the case for ICE. That's completely broken logic. Having gotten an ICE car to travel about ten miles on a completely empty tank (it had a hole in it) I can say with experience that he was doing it wrong! If you're in a hilly area the last thing you want is to grind to a halt at the bottom of a hill, you want all the kinetic energy possible to get you up the next hill. Regenerative braking only returns a fraction of the energy available to the batteries. He would have had more range if he just used the regen to keep from being executed by the rozzers. In my ten mile trip I didn't pay much attention to the speedo but fortunately or unfortunately I was brought to a standstill by a Red light at an intersection I needed to turn at at the very bottom of the last hill with a rozzer waiting to go through the intersection coming the opposite way. He nicely gave me a lift to get fuel just a 1/4 mile up the hill.
@onemoremisfit
@onemoremisfit 6 сағат бұрын
I agree, he was going about it all wrong thinking he was getting free energy from regen when all that does is make braking a little less wasteful and nothing more. The best strategy would be basically the same as any other car, accelerate as easy as possible, select the most efficient speed and keep it steady as possible.

They were demonstrating all of the inboard tech and when they turned on the climate control, the range indicator immediately lost 40 miles. I remarked that the sound system was good and that'd be the feature that I'd enjoy most and they said you have to be sparing playing the music system because it has a noticeable impact on range too? @@Ayeright. Tesla's premium sound system is ~500W, so if you somehow managed to run it at full power, it would drain 1kWh in 2h, which would be about 2% of the batt of the lowest range Tesla. More than likely you'd be using some fraction of the sound system's power, and would degrade far less than 1% per hour. The climate can impact range, but mostly in very cold temperatures, and only some small %. Cold temps also affect the batt efficiency. You do need to account for a ~30% degradation in range in cold, winter climates. But who's going on long road trips in the dead of winter anyway.

Hybrids have an ICE engine as well as the EV battery and motor, and they have all the problems an EV's has, plus the maintenance of a ICE engine, it's far more complex than an ICE vehicle. Hybrids don't work well in extreme weather either, it's range was claimed to be about 300 miles, I didn't get any where near that kind of mileage.

Hi just a quick note , here in the U.K I drive a E 250 saloon (really love it) anyway as E.V,s (Tesla,s in-particular) seem to see my car as something to show off to. This results in some outrageously high speed driving in 40 MPH zones through built up areas with no respect to the people living there. On one occasion a lady accelerated her Tesla so hard that smoke started pouring from the rear nearside of the car. I was puzzled at 1st till I realised it was her rear nearside tyre burning rubber big style. This seemed to slow her progress somewhat but she for a short while did not realise what was slowing her down, I supposed that the tyre suffered a bit! I never provoke these people ,I am aware of the acceleration figures for large E.Vs but it goes to show a driver not used to driving such a powerful car can really become at times lethal on our highways, to themselves and others. Drivers who build up their driving skills as they move up the ladder from low powered cars to faster more sophisticated cars, do so on a long learning curve. Stepping out of a family saloon into a 300 H.P E.V from observations seem on public highways is a little challenging for many, (dread to see them on a slippery road) My 1St car was a 1959 Vauxhall , progressed through many vehicles and did same on my motorbikes . Never hurt anyone but always learned mile by mile, car by car , motorbike by motorbike the skills it takes for us all to enjoy and stay alive as we learn journey by journey etc. Anyway just an observation on a constantly evolving (devolving) life on 2 and 4 wheels.
