Very much resonated with your point about marathon runners not being better than 5k or 10k runners. I have completed a marathon, and realised that I prefer Half Marathons and under and enjoy them more. You don't have to keep going for longer and longer races! Find what works and do what you ENJOY!

Thanks for the video, it's very helpful! I'm a total beginner trying to get back into the swing of things after taking a break for the holidays. I did my first in person 5k with a time of 44 mins so my goal this year is to do 5k in under 40 mins! Something achievable in time but not so big that it's daunting.

Great video, signposting people to the couch to 5k is a great idea also. It helped me so much, gives a very clear progression plan and structure to it, perfect for a complete beginner.

Goal - simple: complete a marathon - specifically Brighton - April 10 - gulp! Considering an ultra for later in the year. Would like to get 10k down to around 45 min, and 5k around 21 min.

Great video!! I'd rather run a trail marathon slowly than a road 5k fast... 5ks are brutal! If you're giving it your all, it doesn't matter what distance you're running. I discovered in the last few years the importance of trying different distances, as we'll as surfaces. 5k is the normal place to start, but once you build your fitness, try other distances. Not only will it make you a stronger "smarter" runner (you learn more about yourself, body, mind, gear, nutrition etc) you also might be surprised at finding a distance that clicks, that you love!

Happy New Year Ben. I’ve 12 weeks until Manchester Marathon but unfortunately I was laid low last week with COVID and this week my breath and energy seems to have gone as I recover! I am going to do some smaller gentle runs this week and then hopefully continue with my training plan. Gutted as I wanted to really get into it.

Very good info, I binged on all your videos when I first started running in September 2020 and would recommend the same to others! Having run 5k up to full marathon I'd have to say my favourite distance to run/race is 10k, just short enough to get some really good speed but long enough where you have to hold back a smidge so that you don't suffer the whole way! (like the 5k)

Hi Ben, my goal for 2022 is to run a sub 2h50 marathon in Rotterdam in April and 2h45 in Berlin in September (if drawn from lottery). I will probably use your training plan to prepare for the Berlin marathon.

Hi great video I'm also going to be new to running at the moment Im just coming to the end of covid but I really would like to start somewhere I live very close to the southdowns so great hills to run up and down. I'm very much into mtb and currently ride an ebike as I found my fitness limited me as when I was on my non ebike I just couldn't do the long rides and if I did a hill I felt like my heart was going g to explode. So I took on board what you said about run walk and I'm going to start slowly at the weekend. Question is start just by running round my local park first? Before thinking we can all take on a 5k as I'm really not that fit at 51 years young but really want to get my breathing better on my bike and enjoy running too!! Advice is greatly appreciated 😊😊🏃♂️🏃♂️

Hi Ben, just found your channel and its so helpful and I find your videos awesome. This year I've decided to get back into running aftwr a 7 year break and I've entered a few half marathon races to motivate me. I've just worked out my hr zones and my easy pace seems to vary massively. When I start my long run I'll run at 6:45 min/km for around the first 9km but can't seem to keep my hr down so need to slow down to around 7:30min/km or even slower after that. When I do my 3 minute interval training session my pace is around 4:40 min/km and my hr is in zone 4. I feel good after these sessions. Do you have any advise for how to keep my min/km more consistent on long runs without having to slow down to keep my hr in zone 2?
