I have a similar setup for my B4K, but Instead of mounting the battery above the rails which kills viewing and ease of use of the touch screen, I mount the battery below the rails. This creates a natural counterbalance when used on a tripod or monopod and serves as a pan and tilt touch point eliminating the need for the tripod arm. When using my shoulder rig I've added rods to the very back of the shoulder pad and attach the plate and battery below the rods, this adds even more counterbalancing and stability as your shoulder and back become touch points. I have a male D-tap 4-port female D-tap hub splitter velcroed to the top of the battery which powers the entire rig with the appropriate short and extended D-tap adapted camera and accessory cables. This approach also makes the use of a monitor an option as opposed to a necessity.

I was thinking about doing that as well. It's not too bad for me though. Im used to it now and I feel more comfortable maneuvering it this way

Just saw your vid, and have a suggestion for a v-mount solution. I use the Fotga DP500 III CCUPS plate / power distribution, and love it! It has two 12v 5.5mm, one 5v 3.5mm, one USB, and one 14v 4-pin Lemo outlet. I power the camera via 5.5mm to 2-pin Lemo, Shinobi via 5.5mm to NP-F dummy, Zacuto Gratical Eye via 4-pin Lemo to 2-pin Lemo, and Blackmagic HDMI to SDI converter via USB. Finding the correct cabling can be a challenge, but do-able. I still have an empty 5v 3.5mm outlet that with a DC barrel to micro-usb cable, can be used to power a follow focus or other 5v device. It also has a power switch to power up/down everything with one press of a button. As an added bonus, if plugging into a wall outlet makes sense for your shooting scenario, the CCUPS comes with a power brick so you don't have to rely on the battery. With a LP-E6 battery in the camera, you can hot-swap V-mounts without interrupting a recording. I also like the ergonomics. The whole plate pivots on it's rail clamp. This allows me to flatten it out while on tripod or shoulder configuration for counter-balance, then flip it up and rest the plate against my chest for stability while hand holding. Hope this helps you with your rig.

I was about to ask the same. If you don't wanna change your battery to the Core SWX (which I really recommend) you can change you V-Mount itself for someone like CAMVATE V Lock Mounting Plate Power Supply Splitter with has the USB, DC, D-TAP and all you need.
@Joshua-fc7ri
@Joshua-fc7ri 5 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same. Also there's an npf battery that had USB and DC out I use on my rig. I power the monitor and camera off of it but you could use it for the USB out. When you're handheld it's pretty small setup but that battery won't last as long so it's a trade off.

I would highly suggest the Core SWX V-Mount battery. It is made to work with the pocket 4K. Has a small screen showing power remaining, 2 d taps, a dc out and most importantly a usb a port. Basically can power the pocket 4K, nucleus nano and even a monitor all from one V mount battery. Works great! The one I got even comes with a dummy battery for the Bmpcc4k but I use the power cable directly into camera.

You don’t really need one as long as the monitor is 12v, Which most monitors are, I was thinking of the dummy battery which required a 8v input, and would need the voltage stepped down so as to not burn out the camera.

Yo! Whats your workflow when you shoot on a gimbal? unscrew and dismount it from the rig and and throw just the body on a ronin for example? How do you manage your storage and battery lifetime while doing so? I really wanna switch from Sony to the pocket 4k but this question bothers me the most. Most of the time I shoot music videos -> so a lot of variety of gimbal and handheld shots. What type of workflow do you recommend? I don't plan on getting the shoulder rig type setup cause I want a little bit more flexibility concerning the handling of the camera for some more creative perspectives and not only to shoot comfortably on my eye level. So basically the lite version of your setup. But still is there some solution to throw it on the Ronin in an efficient way? or unmounting everything and switching from handheld to gimbal? Greetings from Vienna! Keep up the quality mate
@2gunzfilms425
@2gunzfilms425 4 жыл бұрын
I put my cage on the quick release plate and put the female side of a quick release onto my shoulder rig. I have a tall matte box so it works. When switching to the Ronin S, I just have to take the camera off the shoulder rig with the quick release, and put it on the ronin and balance. For power, I use a cable I got from BH that allows the battery from the Ronin to power the camera. It's a ronin 12v out (The same one you use for the ronin follow focus motor) to BMPCC Power cable (NOT UsbC but actual 2 pin power). It'll run the ronin and the camera for about 2 hours, slightly longer if it's balanced perfectly. I have the DJI Ronin extra handles, so I use one of the cold shoes on those to mount my monitor. I mount one handle in the back of the ronin with my monitor, and one handle on the right side. It feels pretty good. I'm thinking about ordering a steadicam vest with an adapter to mount the ronin on to help with weight and make it feel more like an advanced futuristic steadicam 3000 type deal lol It gets heavy as shit on a music vid shoot after a few takes.

problem with that is you lose the ability to have an SSD drive recording from the camera. it's better to just use a battery plate with USB outs (I use the one from IKAN) and connect that to the motor. I personally just use a mechanical follow focus. I don't see the need for the Nucleus if you're a one man band. when it's on the ronin I just use the DJI focus motor. Save some money and some headache.
