Would an albuterol inhaler actually enhance performance without asthma? To my understanding, unless you have inflammation in your airway, it would only increase your heart rate. Basically have the same effect as caffeine.
@qwizzler2 жыл бұрын
Yes there's an upper limit how much you can use for WADA testing. There's no formoterol upper limit and you can get a theraputic use exemption for it. It's also more anabolic than albuterol is.

Based on your experience with an affiliate, would you happen to have a guesstimate for a percentage of athletes on PEDs in any given box?I’m just wondering if we’re entering the steroid era at the local level. Struggling to make quarters or semis or just to podium in local comps = take PEDs?
@Corinna-Mom2 жыл бұрын
Omg...it’s very much at the local level because they’re non tested events. There were many boxes in my area where I use to live where the athletes openly talked about them using. They would enter every competition imaginable. But the other competitors were doing the same thing so it just because known that the RX division was the PEDs division and the Intermediate were the natural athletes 😅so sad but so true.

There is no way Toomey is natty and you can tell by looking at her.
@christophersean37662 жыл бұрын
@Beastbombshell oh I agree she's both. I have been working out over 20 years including college athletics, crossfit gyms, bodybuilding gyms, Hydrox, Spartan races, running clubs, etc.... I have never seen a natty woman look remotely like her and I have seen up close many amazing female athletes. Her shoulder, traps, and arm definition are highly suspicious. I have seen plenty of lean ladies with 6 packs and big legs but the level of vascularity TTC has in her upper body isn't natural for a chick and honestly it would be highly suspicious for a man. All of that combined with her expanding PED gut there is no way she's natty. She's still an incredible athlete and hard worker but nobody should look at her and think that's natty achievable.
@honed2 жыл бұрын
Interesting about the inhalers, because half the contestants in high level cross country skiing are on inhalers for their "asthma" - it's a bronchodilator that relaxes and opens the airways...so doesn't that give them a huge advantage? I would think it's the same in crossfit, that it will give you massive assistance in a workout?
@hannahmichelle72332 жыл бұрын
I have moderately bad asthma and I can confirm I still suck more than the average cross fitter. I'd like to think it's not giving me much advantage otherwise I must be really really bad 😂 Definitely if I didn't take it I'd be severely disadvantaged... and probably hospitalised 😂
@honed2 жыл бұрын
@@hannahmichelle7233 Totally understandable, if you have asthma and it's medically necessary to have an inhaler I can only imagine how vital it is to your daily life. Not denying that. My comment was about how I find it a little statistically improbable that a high percentage of Olympic athletes have asthma, and that the inhaler could give a certain advantage to those that don't necessarily need it. The prevalence of asthma medication in use among high competitive cross country skiiers, as was my example, is on average 23% (sorry I inflated the number before, it's a aprox 1/4 not 1/2) that's is a high percentage when the prevalence of physician-diagnosed asthma is reported to be 4.3% globally. Maybe they need it maybe they don't, just find it interesting.
@jeffjackson11872 жыл бұрын
A standard Ventolin type inhaler for asthma is not going to give anyone a huge advantage but it can be the difference between competing or not for people with asthma. I have chronic asthma had to use one when I was a high school athlete . I was able to get my asthma to the point of not needing to use a rescue inhaler as a college athlete but it doesn't give you super strength, endurance, etc. I does open your airways though. I don't know what it is like for people without asthma but the effect is not enough that I would let it be an excuse for someone beating me. Hope that perspective helps from some who has used. Lol.

@triwithlaura31382 жыл бұрын
Great video!!! Ignoring physique, another reason people think CrossFit is dirty is due to the roundedness of many athletes. They place top in strength, endurance and speed all over the course of 5 days when heavily fatigued. To many this isn't humanly possible - when looked at more closely, does it become statistically improbable? I'd love your view on that 😊 PEDs aren't always visible
@MandalorDX2 жыл бұрын
love these videos and I don't disagree with your assessment. However, Roger Clemens didn't look like a PED user, and Strongmen and Powerlifters look completely different than bodybuilders on PED. Keep up the good work.

The Armstrong example is not a good one. First of all Lance Armstrong more than likely was using synthetic EPO and GHG. Prior to 2000, there were no good testing methods that could parse out the endogenous (naturally occurring) forms of EPO from synthetic EPO. Also GHG presented many ambiguous results prior to 2005. Testing for both of these and their metabolites are much better. Also, some of Lance Armstrong’s test results were not exactly negative, some were simply ambiguous and we know that the physician for his team (who has since lost his license) was providing constant low levels of testosterone under the tongue using olive oil. Finally, after every EPO, GHG and testosterone infusion, the cyclists were giving large saline IV solutions. These can obscure a lot of test. Most modern labs connected to WADA are keen to these methods and most will not simply test for the substance but the metabolites and look for dilute urine as a way to suggests further testing is necessary. Metabolites have longer half lives and diluted urine is lot harder to clear during the time at which one would want to cheat the test. This is not to suggest that one cannot find ways to cheat the test, it is just a lot harder now than it was say 20 some years ago.
@benwhitnell2 жыл бұрын
What you’ve pointed out is the fundamental problem with all PED testing though. There is more incentive to cheat than there is to catch someone cheating. There’s always something new, there’s always a way to fool the test, and there always will be. Look at what happens to weight lifters when you go back and test the samples from 10 years ago. All of the sudden these guys that never popped once are stripped of their spots 10 years in arrears because they were using the latest and greatest.
@4_the_health_of_it2 жыл бұрын
@@benwhitnell would I agree that testing often is playing catch up? But I don’t know that that is the driving incentive. I think having millions of followers on social media and making six+ figures in income can be an incentive for some.

Respectfully you’re wrong. Yes you can see people who are Natty have a crazy transformation. That’s people with very little fitness experience or high body fat though. They have the room for the improvement. Not someone who has decades of high level training and low body fat %. Tia Toomey had already got 2nd at 2 CrossFit games. At that high of a level, there isn’t that much room for huge improvement. That’s why no high level fitness athletes are showing up looking way different each year. They’re already at the peak, it’s fractions of a percent of improvement each year. I’ve got a degree in fitness management/personal training. Have worked with powerlifters, cross fitters, strongmen, Highland games athletes, and your everyday average person just trying to be healthy. No high level athlete is showing up with a transformation like Toomey without some drugs. And yes, several of the athletes I’ve worked with are on PED’s so I’m aware of how this whole thing works
