Can you imagine an NFL playoff game/season based off how CrossFit runs their business and workouts…? It’d be catastrophic. Constantly varying doesn’t mean random and off the wall. It’s almost comical to watch professional athletes, people who have dedicated their entire life preparing for the games get crossovers thrown at them and totally losing it. Can you imagine the NFL telling all quarterbacks to throw with their off hand because they wanted something to make the game more interesting. All it does is turn off CrossFit fans and gives ammunition to the haters.
@thebarbellspin Жыл бұрын
And this is why the "touching the rower" on 23.1 was NOT a "nothing burger". If you let that slide, then the athletes will keep pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable...especially when CFHQ writes movement standards that aren't clear.

One of the best videos yet, HQ and the sport are broken, lack of integrity and accountability. Thanks, Andrew, for being a true north.
@rubixmonkey0839 Жыл бұрын
Talking about accountability, initially it was pushed hard that videos MUST be submitted with scores and was pushed everywhere, only to later see a post by The Barbell Spin saying video submissions weren't required. I missed an opportunity to submit a better for test 2 because I was doing my due diligence and abiding by their rules. Also athletes could submit a score and unless asked for a video (which could be performed later now), not provide proof?
@rubixmonkey0839 Жыл бұрын
For the inevitable CF &*%$ Up QFs: 1. Crossover standard wording being silently changed on scorecard/standards (not even a version note and time of change? something done in official documents), counting video pushed to social media 5+ hours after window for wods 1+2 opens, which was originally only included in scorecard/movement standard document and nowhere else 2. Beginning of QFs it's stated multiple times and right there on submission page that athletes must provide video with score submission. Later walked back, scores can be submitted without video, not pushed by HQ that I know of, only saw it posted by Brian Friend and BB Spin. Sometime late Friday. 3. Judging gray areas. A picture is worth 1000 words and a standard video would be worth 1 million. GHDs hip positioning and what makes a V-Up? Guess you can throw the counting standard for crossovers in here, since were counting cross transitions, not actual crossover skips. You know what throw the heels on the wall for wall facing HSPU in here too, also silently changed and never acknowledged by HQ, no version change or edit note stating what was changed. 4. Inclusivity: If they're going to say they are about it, then I'll mention it. Thursday to Sunday puts two major windows for people with full time jobs during days when they have limited time. Good on not using the daylight savings weekend again which caused submission issues last year, but why not shift to Friday-Monday? That way we can fully utilize the weekend to get tests done. I had about a 3 hour window to get test 1+2 done right after QF started on Thursday, some of which was utilized reading the new (and confusingly worded and later redacted) standards, because I get up to work at 5am (so I go to sleep early) and work until 3pm on Friday (EST cut off time), meaning I had no time Friday to redo tests, everything had to be perfect out the gate Thursday evening (see above: it wasn't). Friday night I don't care about going to bed later if I can sleep in, and then have all of Saturday and Sunday to get 2-3 more tests done and maybe a redo. Also rolling cut off times? Since we are only competing against our region, why don't we have standardized local time cut offs. Some regions might get "more time" but everyone in that region gets it, so it doesn't matter. That way every region can make the most use of their day to get work done.

I touched my toes with feet together for every v-up because I can read! It sucked and I was 5 reps short of 2 rounds. I know for a fact that if I did it the way other people did it with feet apart touching the tongue of their shoes it would be much easier. I also have long legs relative to my torso so I have more mass to lift every reps.
@MrGoturo33 Жыл бұрын
I'm legit a bit upset at "intent" email. I've unofficially qualified for semis and that GHD workout was by far my worst score. Keeping my feet together destroyed my midline. I knew the standard and my feet still came apart twice because it's what they want to do and I was no repped. Had I done them feet apart I would have flown through them and probably finished in the high 500's. Legit BS. It makes a huge difference and when done correctly destroys your midline for the next set of GHDs.

If they indeed have 200 employes to review a 20 minute workout with an eight hour work day they could review 4800 submissions in one day. They have 5 workouts so in one week they could easily review every one of the 300 athletes to make semi finals. For each of their 200 employees they could give them 4 athletes each and that is the top 800 athletes reviewed in one week if they review a workout a day. I don't know how they don't do this.

Appropriate that you included the Rock and WWE, since the competition side of CrossFit is simply sports entertainment and not a sport. There are stars that "must be there", since they have big sponsors and CrossFit gets money from those sponsors, but maybe not if their athletes aren't competing. Remember, the people that own CrossFit are a PR/marketing group and they aren't interested in the standards or making it fair. They are interested in more $$$$, more publicity, more views, etc. This won't get better, rather it will get worse. Once they enforce standards they lose control of the narrative and no way they will do that. Why? Because then they can't market and sell it. It's a twisted pile of garbage, since people want to see athletes they cheer for do the same work they It saddens me that affiliate owners and athletes game the workout intent like Bill Clinton "I never had relations with that woman". Sheesh. I'd be embarrassed if I were these athletes and coaches who let them game the intent of the workouts, regardless of how marketable or much of a nice person you are. I'd also be embarrassed if I were Adrian Bozman, as the athletes are stomping all over the workouts you programmed and you're silent. Truly sad.
@leebradford770 Жыл бұрын
I think CrossFit is over compensating for past mistakes by prescribing every last detail of a workout. I think they will realise this and won’t adjust scores for any of these athletes. They are in a cycle of constant change, so much so they can’t keep up themselves. They must soon reach a point where they simplify some standards then lock them in place. It will make their job easier and every athletes job easier. It will also reduce the criticism coming their way. It’s the old pendulum swing. It’s swung too far and hopefully it will come (back) to centre soon…I hope
