I’m glad to finally see the take on what scale this ship should be at. Many times minifig scale is used loosely between play scale and actual minifig scale accuracy to look right in the realm of other models. So I kinda take their word on it when they say it’s in that accurate scale and between the Lego sets there’s a lot of range so hard to always know what seems right It would be interesting to see a jango color scheme fit in this as well but imagine that would change a lot of the parts.
@RandomPerson-zl6uz2 жыл бұрын
Best model you’ve ever showed, wish the parts were cheaper though as I just can’t justify buying something that expensive. Is there any way to acquire the parts list without the instructions in order to see if there are pieces that can be substituted for less expensive ones?

From what I've seen, the only very expensive part is the clear cockpit which can totally be replaced by the purple one with a black coat underneath or the brick built one. I've eyed the other pieces when I did the bricklink want list and I didn't see many $1+ pieces. Most of them ranged between 10c and 50c etc But again, it was a quick look. I'll check it again. I did see the instructions and I think some pieces can be replaced with other colors.

Awesome build! I love the shifting passenger area and always wanted to see how Lego would implement that in an updated Lego build after seeing it in The Mandalorian. As we all know, minifigs aren’t scale to actual humans, with their proportions being wider and shorter, like Japanese chibi. It worked with the Millennium Falcon because by nature it’s meant to be wide while the Slave 1 is tall and upright. If an updated UCS ship were to happen, we’d be looking at another gunship scenario: oversized and made for the actual features. Give and take, I hope they make amazing exclusive minifigs for it if they do.

Okay guys I built this over the weekend and I have some mixed feeling about it... first off I want to say that the finished product is an absolutely fantastic DISPLAY MODEL with lots of accurate details! Emphasis on display model because after finishing it I don't have enough confidence to touch more than 70% of the model. The entire lower and top red part and back are extremely delicate using very interesting technique which I've never seen before. It was very difficult to put those sections together and even more difficult to line everything up, but with care and patience it worked out almost like the one you see in their video. I think you'd have to spend a whole entire day trying to make this thing look perfect and then you can't even blow on it because it'll ruin it. The building process itself was great with the exception of some steps which took extremely long and the build is very delicate once you start building the lower red part and back which I thought was really quite insane. I don't consider myself an amazing builder but I think even experts would have a hard time with the tight and precise fits of this model (LEGO would not use the techniques used in this build even if that product made them a million dollars!) If you're into challenges, really cool MOCs, and you have the money for it, this UCCS Slave 1 is just amazing in the end of the process and it's definitely at the top of my favorites as an iconic and fulfilling model to put together.

It's genuinely a bad model. I don't understand why they couldn't use more hidden technic for more stability. This thing is almost impossible to build without it breaking into hundreds of pieces. Seriously frustrating. Way too many unjustifiably bad one-two stud connections
@dariusrat6468 Жыл бұрын
@devinharris2175 yeah I got really frustrated too and I am usually a very patient lego builder. At those weak connections I actually used superglue which I never do but it had to be done. Finished model is great for display but it has to be handled very carefully
@devinharris2175 Жыл бұрын
@@dariusrat6468 Be careful with super glue, since super glue can permanently damage lego pieces (ABS plastic does not work well with super glue). For the future I would definitely recommend using elmer's glue with a paintbrush since it is ABS plastic friendly. @dariusrat6468 Жыл бұрын
@devinharris2175 yeah you're probably right. Also it leaves a white residue from the chemical bonding with the bricks. Yeah I mean you don't have to glue all the parts bit definitely once you start building the bottom half of the red dish it's necessary for extra hold otherwise the model will literally fall apart on you while you're building it like it did to me. You definitely won't be able to handle the model like you would any other lego set, not matter how much glue is used it'll still be just a display piece

Fun Fact: The Slave 1 cockpit does NOT swivel. That is an invention from Lego and Hasbro that has never ever been established in any media, quite the opposite in fact: Boba has to climb into the 90 degree offset seat in AOTC. Only the wings swivel and Lego had to come up with a way to allow them to move freely, so they put the cockpit on the same axle. Should have invested that space to actually seat 3 people in the top cockpit.

It seems it has several iterations. According to the Incredible Cross Sections, from Lucasfilm, Slave I does have a swivel cockpit, which is fixed in one of the two available positions, depending on the flight mode. The cockpit also contains the co-pilot's seat, under the main seat.
@Matt..S2 жыл бұрын
@@milanmali9013 no cross section books were never canon. they were inventions by third parties without reference material. look cool, but completely made up. some other guy told me that the cockpit is an invention of the first Kenner toy. It also makes zero sense to swivel based on the stationary look on cloud city where McQuarrie clearly drew it in "flight mode". and it is also physically impossible and impractical AND the original test models and sketches show it as rigid non swiveling, especially for episode 2
@milanmali90132 жыл бұрын
@@Matt..S I tend to use the cross sections for some purposes as they are at least approved by Lucasfilm. Other sources are made by various people who may or may not be legally connected with SW. I've been researching dimensions of all the SW vehicles, for let's say 2 years, made an extensive file to track each source with their own LxWxH, and I am horrified. Each vehicle has at least 3 (MF 10+) different values (sources) for each dimension. I build Lego scale models and would like to build some of the main SW vehicles, in 1:20, or 1:15 in the next decade or so, but, as noted, really hard to find the "correct" info. Amazing video as usual! But I have a question tho. I'm really interested on diving into custom builds, but it's really frightening as it seems one has to know a lot to get the correct pieces and to build what u call "expert builds". What are those 'complex connections' that you keep refering to? I would love to see a video on the subject, to know a bit more on what I am going into :) Thanks again for the great content!
@BrickVault2 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. The general rule with custom building is that you're going to run into a bit more complicated and/or fragile connections during the build compared to an official lego set (not all the time, but generally that's the way it goes). A model like this one might have a few "no touchy" areas, or you'll have to bend some pieces back into place. If you're new to the world of custom building, the Slave 1 will test you on every level. You'll need to pinch certain pieces together, apply back pressure while attaching certain things, etc... Much of the last couple of months have been dedicated to optimizing the build order for the Salve 1 to make it more accessible. It is a big commitment to jump in on a build like this though and I'd feel bad anyone's patiance ran out before it was finished or didn't like the sturdiness once complete. We are doing a specific comparison video for this and the UCS set, much like the Falcon comparison video from a couple weeks ago. A more indepth video on general custom model expectations might actually be fun to make though :)

I’m about 3/4 of the way through the build. It’s VERY challenging! Incredibly clever (to be frank, genius!). However…it really suffers from lack of strength, particularly on the underside where it’s incredibly fragile during the build process. The lack of sufficient stud grip to take the weight is an issue (brick glue may be a solution but I’ve never used it). The underside fell apart during construction on literally dozens of occasions 😡.
