Need I remind you that the kids in despair girls all experienced a serious form of abuse, and in some cases the game even SHOWED some of it. Also, there were tons of people, including kids, dying during the whole game. Whereas in v3, the gory moments were just in the executions. Also, Miu is in v3.....so yeah.

The massacre is being orchestrated by a ragtag gang of abused children who're playing a murder game to see who can murder the most adults. Not to mention how many notes you find laying around the overworld written by parents who're being hunted down by their own kids and how Komaru, at one point, details what life was like during despair and how seven of her classmates died and her best friend went missing

Most of the time i've seen game over is when I died by explosion or falling into void/water, so I basically never seen despair time minigame. And since I never seen it, when it appeared in the final boss is kinda got me off guard, since I never had tutorial showing up for that minigame. Also because of that everytime i've got a skill book that affected despair time i've had literally zero clue what that was

Thanks for covering this game! UDG is my favorite DR game, despite its flaws, and I think it deserves more recognition. The voice acting, sprites, 2D animations, worldbuilding, story, and the dynamic between Komaru and Toko really made this game for me, and it both of their personalities and development hit close to home for me playing this game at a rough time in my life. I really wish we got a UDG2 instead of DR3 to get more interactions between those two!

I love UDG. It was very fun, I dont get why people dont like it. It has great animation and I didn't mind the gameplay change up for once. I loved the exploration of Toko and Komaru. I adore the puzzle and the music and the characters. Too bad that Hinas Brother got killed off really quickly.

Some puzzles I liked such as the Lazer area in the factory, where you had to dodge them as best as you can or else the monokumas would come after you. I didn't really like the birthdate puzzles though, but I really did like the detect puzzles and the puzzle involving light. Resident Evil 2 Remake is a shooter game, and it has puzzles (although take a grain of salt for me comparing UDG to a survival horror game) I think UDG pulls off SOME of its puzzles really well, but if theres one type of puzzle that is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, ITS THE MONOKUMAN MACHINES, THEY ARE THE BEEST. They serve as a break away from outside combat and as basically one of the biggest reasons I love the game. How could you not enjoy the Monokuman machines?

@@Lachrymogenic Actually, I did find similarities in UDG with the survival horror genre, the gore, the limited ammunition, the slow control that are more restrictive, your character being just a 16 year old girl etc. And yes, the puzzle and riddles are great in UDG, but theres a reason the adventure genre is not selling that well, games with riddle and puzzle just dont have main appeal. And don't ignore my other argument, the presence of very little fan service is enough to make the majority just outright ignore the game from the get go. And the one that like fan service prefer comedy over very intense and dark themes games.

Ammo management is important, I always aim for their eyes. and yes, the lack of fanservice is probably apparent, however there are references to the V3 canon in UDG, if not throughout the entire game series about whether Danganronpa was just fiction or not.

I'm honestly fine with the shocking edgy moments in the game. Sure, most of them are really fucking horrible and traumatic, but it helps to actually give some great motivation to the villains (the warriors of hope are by far the best written antagonists in DR imo)

Fun fact: All the variations of Monokuma were intended to help society in some way or another (at least that´s what Monaka said to everyone in Towa Group). For example: To maintain order (guard monokuma and siren monokuma as police, destroyer monokuma as task force and bomber monokuma as anti-bomb squad), junk monokuma (to get rid of trash), ball monokuma and beast monokuma (as entertainment) and big bang monokuma to protect the entire city againts major threats. Also, the infamous line that Haiji said was meant to make him look as a superficial guy that only cares about the look of a girl. But that was pretty misinterpreted by many people. Mostly due to translation. And Nagito´s hair color is like that because he is less sick than in current times. His hair also progressively changes color during the DR3 anime. By the way, the collectibles are actually quite important. They give A LOT of information about everything: Towa city, the biggest most awful event in human history, towa group, the kids, Toko and Komaru´s life, the future foundation, etc.

@Andrea De Luca I used to think the same, but looking back on it, since they are in a simulation, Monokuma can just decide to make whatever random result he want. So if we take the moments where Naito got lucky (in DR2, I don't consider DR3 canon because it is garbage imo) : -When he got assigned to cleaning duty : 1 in 15 ? Quite lucky indeed. But he could have just cheated (even though he likes to pretend that he did not, but he does pull a lot of lies throughout the story). -The Russian Roulette : 1 in 8 ? Lucky, but not really that lucky. -The who-threw-the-poison case : That is the most interesting one in my opinion. Because when you think about it, Chiaki being the one throwing the chemical is pretty convenient for Monokuma, so he can just pretend that is what happened. The 30% prediction thing is never really used so it does not really matter. But ghosts are never set up before in the story, and they are used in Danganronpa UDG to deliver an important plot point... that could have easily been delivered in any other way ! So it really was a pointless stuff to make, and it only serves to make a ... joke I guess ? But actually, a sp00ky Danganronpa could be a really interesting idea, if it is set up correctly. If we keep going with the running gag that "IT'S ALWAYS JUNKO !" , then the fact that Junko Enoshima' spirit is the one behind a killing game could be a really funny plot twist, with the right setup and context.

Imo, THH had the most realistic cast and the best character interactions, and what made it great was how "real" it felt when compared to all of the other games. The motives were more personal - things that gave the students reasons to actually want to leave the school - rather than just... random ultimatums. Meanwhile, DR2 had better plot twists and a stronger and more diverse cast, with characters that were easier to get attached to. Its trials were also a major step up from the ones in THH. V3 had a strong cast, and the character interactions were a step up from DR2's (but not as good as THH's, imo), with things like cliques existing and whatnot. It's trials were pretty heartbreaking, and it's executions were some of the most brutal in the series. So yeah. All of the games are pretty great, and I can't choose between them--

@@celty_6835 The reason I dont like THH is because I just really dont like Makoto. Everything about him annoys me. The character interactions are pretty good, but I'm not a big fan of the characters themselves. Hifumi? Annoying. Hagakure? Annoying. Toko? Annoying. I cant really explain why I felt that way, it's just how it is. I have two more reasons why I this way. THH has only 4 murder trials while the other two have 5. Danganronpa 1 also is an enclosed environment. I understand the intent to make the atmosphere claustrophobic, but it bothered me in a way that V3 and especially DR2 didnt. I will give you your point about motives however. I think THH handled the idea best. As in the other two, it feels more forced instead of "This gave me a reason to *want* to kill "

I don't see much of the "annoying" part being thrown around, but I know that for a lot of people, he was one of the blandest protags. I can understand not liking some of the other characters, too. It took a while for them to grow on me. I thought Toko was annoying before UDG (hell, I'm pretty sure everyone did), and I hated how useless Hagakure was. But looking back on the events of the game, I can't imagine it being the same without them, as they both added a sense of humor, or even annoyance that alleviated the tense atmosphere. But I guess that's just coming from the fact that I've grown pretty partial to all of the DR cast, with the exception of Maki. Imo, the fact that THH only had four murder trials was something that helped flesh out the characters. There was more time to focus on plot and the growth or conflict between the remaining cast since no one was getting killed off for the later half of the game. I'm curious, how'd the atmosphere bother you? (I'm not over here trying to defend THH like it's my favorite game of the series - like I said, I don't have one - but I'm always up for a discussion about it!)

I love the fact that when I went on the convent everybody were saying that I could be a danga protagonist. All because I had a hair antena on my head caused by head surgery(they had to cut off some of my hair before cutting a skin) after a year my ahoge grown longer but it's still visible cuz is sticking out

I played it in between 1 & 2. After then playing 2 I found it did spoil a few things but in some ways I think it still worked really well. Basically all it spoiled is that Future foundation is actually good and the survivors of the 1st game are members. Nagito is a little insane. And that there’s some form of computer Junko that exists that’s being used by some mysterious long haired guy

This was the most family friendly game I've ever seen. You know.... not like there was anything with those kids right? Heh....xD -and Haiji- And hey... now the only game you didn't make video yet is NDRV3 ... and yeah.... I'm really curious about your opinion on it because it is actually my favorite from all the game/novel/manga/idk anymore. Even the characters was for me the best ^^

Honestly, going in I thought this would be pretty bland, just some boring shooter game but it was actually really good! The best part was probably Komaru and Toko's relationship but even the gameplay (which looks boring in almost every video you see) was really fun. Although it was pretty easy though, I gotta admit that. Especially the bosses, they take like 3 attacks from Genocide Jack and drop ded. It felt so weird but at the same time refreshing how different this game is to the other DR games, especially if you play it right after marathoning the first 2 games. Overall I agree that is a must-have (or must-play I guess) for fans of DR! It's fast pace and a bit short in my opinion (I took 15 hours) but it also feels complete and I think adding more content would've harmed more than done good to it. ChEeSe!

15:50 this is the thing I liked the less of this game, like, the contrast between the silly and the children, the awkwardness that is chapter 3 I liked all that because I think they handles it the way they wanted, I think that what I felt is how they wanted me to feel. This part is exposition via jojo reference and as much as I like jojo it felt super cheap to me, the diary that you find in monaca's room says "monaca towa" that could have been the reveal moment and it would have been fine

I loved UDG so so so much, watching Komaru and Toko’s relationship grow was probably my favourite aspect of it. Of course like most games in this franchise, there were some pretty questionable scenes like Kotoko’s mini-boss fight and the way you had to save your progress, but all in all the storyline is something I reaaaally enjoyed.
