To be fair you could argue it makes it more realistic as death was much more present in the lives of medieval people. Death is alot rarer in modern times so it hits us alot harder, but if you had to deal with it every couple months you'd have to move on fairly quickly. That being said being very happy days after your daughter's funeral is quite the Sims quirk lol

Something I did for deaths is instead of the thing most people do where they shift click and make the baby disappear, I rolled as soon as the mother went into labour and used a mod the adds miscarriages' and adds the baby dead baby to the family tree. For any deaths that happen after they are babies, I used the Life's Tragedy's mod that has a very sad little interaction you can have with dying toddler/infant+ and anyone teen+ where they can die in their arms.

Do you use the relationship and pregnancy overhaul mod for the miscarriages? I have that one in my game so thats def more realistic than shift clicking them away. I also have a couple of mods that can give them sicknesses and stuff so I’m thinking about testing those out as options to create more “natural causes” if possible.

A name day is a day when you honor a saint - and it is your name day when you were named after said saint. Very often the first son was named after the father, grandfather or a notable ancestor for example, but the other children were often named after the saint responsible for the day they were born. Good way to avoid arguments regarding baby names, really, plus you and everybody else always knows when your birthday is even if you're an illiterate peasant that usually doesn't know the date. If you're not named after the saint of your birthday you were usually named after another saint, so that saint's day is still your name day, but not your birthday.

Really enjoy this series, the amount of effort you’ve put into it is great and it’s combines two of my favourite things, sims and history 😂. Also, It’s super interesting that people were much less emotionally attached to their children in the early centuries as the survival rate of infants was so low. People literally just had children as extra bodies to do work to earn/help at home. It’s so different the way we see the family dynamic now, which developed in the 1900’s.

Thank you!! That makes sense that they were less attached. Someone also told me that didn’t typically name children until they were toddlers cause so many babies died. I want to play as historically accurate as possible (with the exception of things like racism, slavery, etc.) cause I’m not supporting that no matter what time period I’m playing in, but I definitely want to explore family dynamics and what their daily life would have been like!

I’m not a huge rule follower. I just use the rules as guidelines to give me some structure then I usually just breakaway and do my own thing depending on where I want to take the story.

If you prefer blowing out candles there’s a cake in ye olde cookbook you can use to age sims up. It’s the sponge cake in the puddings section. You do have to gather the ingredients but it’s not too hard. I always age my historical sims up that way

Thank you so much!! I definitely intended to show more of the mod but it was absolute CHAOS so I had to edit it out. I may do a separate video to review it. I don't think the mod is bad it was just really glitchy for me. The birth took FOREVER (which I expected), but it routed us to the hospital (which broke immersion) then she couldn't even have the baby, then after over half an hour of real life time and frustration, she finally had the baby...

I love using the rambunctious religions mod, the 'stay in home neighborhood' mod, and the preteens mod. the preteens mod makes it easier to visualize the need to wait a few 'years' before your teens can be married off (helps keep me patient lol) but you have to 'age them up' by just removing the preteen trait, no actual birthday or they'll age straight to young adult.

I just need more Sims cause I don't have enough so the game keeps populating more. Eventually we'll get it filled. I used pre-teen mod a long time ago and it's pretty good so I might put that back in cause I hate how children age up to immediately looking like they're ready to graduate college.

The blacksmithing mod comes with a rock you can mine for minerals, which you can turn into ingots, you get A LOT more ingots like that, it also levels up your blacksmithing. I'd also recommend stocking up on ingots and making weapons (they go into your inventory so you should be able to sell them to the trader) because they sell ridiculously good, specially when you max the skill if you get some gems and make the bejeweled sword they sell for a lot. You can also make furniture that might look good around the house. JaneSimsten (the person who made the blacksmithing mod) also has an archery mod and a few old timey instruments, as well as the AMAZING Regency Romance mod, it's as the name implies based on the regency era, and a lot of stuff requires you to already have a good amount of money (Most stuff is for the gentry, for which you have to buy a estate, and those are 100.000 simoleons, and then you can expand them) but if you plan on making your sims become part of royalty as you mentioned this mod has the etiquette skill which will let your sims fan themselves, bow, curtsey, use parasols, write letters, etc. Both Regency Romance and the Royalty mod have jobs for peasants too, in case you want to get some sims out of the house for a while when you've got more sims, and make a bit more money (although they don't pay great) I've been loving the series, the alpha cc gives me a headache but it's worth it 😅

Catching up on this series late and loving it! You may have done something similar already but it could be fun to expand on the Name Day thing and make the holidays feel alot more medieval. Like maybe Winterfest is more religious? Though I'd undestand if you don't want to bring a specific religion into it and keep it more general medieval. @@kosmichippie Oh, I totally had that problem too my main problem was that the different families started syncing up (by that I mean all had kids at the same time and all aged up around the same time ) so I had to try and separate it so I wouldn't have just chunks of family gameplay than just waiting for the next war haha. Here are some chicken names from Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales": Pertelote (hen) and Chanticleer (rooster). I think they were from the Nun's Priest tale. You can't get much more medieval a name source than Geoffrey Chaucer!

Waow! I really like what you did to mod your game, it almost feels like an entirely different game! Not a big fan of the sims 4 myself (bigger fan of Sims 2 and 3 - and Sims Medieval) but i really enjoy watching you play this! Maybe it plays straight into me watching game of thrones at the moment too ahaha.. Reminds me a lot of Sims Medieval, but if it was a "real" sims game, not the storybased/quest game that it is. It's the cutest thing! I usually do cake but we've had limited ingredients but I think we should be able to start making honey cakes! that's my favorite cake to use for birthdays. You inspired me to start this challenge, thanks! I'm really enjoying it so far (even if I'm a little heartbroken that I lost my first baby to death rolls when she aged up to infancy, rip Amice). For the realistic childbirth mod, I noticed that the labor takes a long time (I had it in my game and it took almost 24 hours before I just gave up and auto-had the baby), which does make a lot of sense for the whole 'realism' part but can be finicky with such a strict timeline like with the ultimate legacy challenge. It can also have a stalled labor, where the sim has to go to the hospital (I think?), although it only happened to me when my sim was pregnant with triplets, so it could be a multiples thing.

Yes so that's what happened. Basically she instantly had a stalled labor and it sent us to the hospital then that glitched and we couldn't even have it at the hospital so I traveled back to the home lot and we FINALLY had the baby. It was a huge mess which is why I decided to just edit it together into a quick recap instead of dragging you all through the chaos I went through with the mod. I think I'm just taking it out going forward cause it wasn't worth it for a small bit of realism

I have a mostly medieval save also (aside from San Myshuno and San Sequoia) and enjoy watching other people do the Ultimate Decades Challenge, although I haven't tried it myself because I'm playing with multiple fantasy-medieval spellcaster households, so trying to keep up with all of my played households while living completely off the grid/simple living style in multiple Sims worlds would drive me completely guano. 😂 I really love your cc, so thank you for the list of sources! In my save, I use MCCC and (to a lesser extent) Fashion Authority mod to help keep my NPCs in period appropriate clothing. I set MCCC to draw NPCs from my tray files only for populating my worlds, and then spent a day or two going into all of the households (including all the ones showing up in Other Households) and giving them at least one medieval everyday clothing option, or preferably a full medieval wardrobe if there's time to kill. Once that was done, I also used Fashion Authority to create a few "uniforms" (basically four or five basic peasant or noble outfit choices for adult/teen women, adult/teen men, girls, and boys) that I can use if a background NPC happens to turn up wearing modern clothing. One or two clicks on that NPC, and I can select one of those saved outfits to quick-change them into. For my Played Households, since they all have full medieval wardrobes set up in CAS, I just use MC Dresser to quick-change them into an appropriate saved outfit if I log in and find them inexplicably wearing a Star Wars outfit or bunny slippers. But for the most part, since it is drawing from those saved households in my tray folder, the game mostly just generates medievally dressed people as background NPCs now. I think the only reason it's not working for me 100% of the time now is that I have kept San Myshuno and San Sequoia as modern worlds for my few modern-day households, so every now and then I will still get folks in modern clothing popping up in my medieval worlds or vice versa. (I have tried Kuttoe's Home Regions and another mod that I think was by Lotharihoe in an effort to keep all townies in their own home worlds, but either I have configured some settings incorrectly or the game is still spawning some occasional townies that don't belong to a specific home region, so I'm still working on finding some way to keep medieval and modern regions fully separated except for when I want a played character to time-hop.)

Thank you so much!! I'm in the process of updating all of the "other households". I'll definitely check out fashion authority. That sounds super helpful! I hadn't heard of that one. You should also check out "Home Region" mod by Kuttoe. You can assign specific sims to specific worlds so if you're save is already organized with all of your sims then you can just assign the "city folk" to san myshuno and san sequoia then you're good to go!

@@kosmichippie I've done that, but for some reason I still get medievally dressed folk appearing in those two worlds, though modern people are less likely to appear in my medieval worlds now, so I'm not sure why the mod isn't working right for me, unless it's somehow conflicting with my MCCC settings, or maybe I'm just not configuring the Home Regions settings correctly. For now, I just imagine there are a bunch of Ren Faire folk who enjoy wandering doing the tourist thing in San Myshuno and San Sequoia while wearing garb. 😂

I think a true simulation game (without the use of mods) where you play a family through generations in time would be amazing. We have games like Civilization and Crusader Kings, but you're managing an entire kingdom with those.

Made me cry a little bit. 😢 also you’re so easy to watch and very talented!! i hope you keep up with this series and stay on yt. btw i really hope you don’t take out the realistic child birth mod!!! i know it’s pretty difficult to navigate the first few times, but the result is usually so much more enriching to the sims’ lives to me. You *should* be able to designate a home birth from the phone btw. Works for me. Obviously it’s ultimately up to you and I’ll keep watching either way, but it’s honestly one of my favorite mods and I think works perfectly with decades play!

Thank you so much!! I’m going to give realistic child birth one more try. I did designate home birth but it said her birth stalled and forced us to the hospital but then it wouldn’t even let us check in. Luckily it let me travel home and I was able to restart the birth then it worked. Let me know if you have any tips on preventing stalled birth. It was weird cause it happened instantly so there was nothing I could even do about it.

@@kosmichippie Had to do some research, because this has never personally happened to me, but I figured it out! This happens when the mother is having a medical emergency and needs an emergency c-section. It should prompt you when this is happening saying your sim is having an emergency and needs a c-section and asks you if you want to travel with anybody to the hospital. On this screen you can close out the menu (like when canceling traveling) and the labor will progress normally. Btw this occurrence is pretty rare! 10% for the complication and even rarer that the c-section is needed. So unlucky 😭😭
