Another excellent review, Karia. I think you have a little bit of the German attention to detail yourself, and it means you really give us meaningful, useful information. I was interested in the Albrecht Durer, did my research, and then came looking to see if you had done a review on them, for my final "seal of approval". So I've just ordered a set of 60 and look forward to receiving them. Thank you, as always, for your intelligent observations.

Thank you for another amazing review. I just bought myself a set of 60 (I found a brand new set for $80). I can't afford the 120, but since they're watercolor pencils...like you said, you can do a lot with them.

Found it on Amazon through a 3rd party seller called "yes1000 from EUROPE". Prices fluctuate. As of today, it's being sold directly through Amazon for $80 :)

Yes, sorry, USD. I know, I was a little apprehensive since it was coming from Lithuania. The estimated delivery was a month to 2 months, but I was willing to wait since it was a good price. But it got to me (in Hawaii, USA) in 2 weeks. It was packed very securely. I was extremely happy with the seller "yes1000 from EUROPE"

Great review and comparison; but now I feel so dissatisfied with my Derwent watercolor pencils, LOL. Are the Albrecht Durer Magnus watercolor pencils the same thing as Faber-Castell Art Grip Aquarelle pencils?
@ColoringKaria7 жыл бұрын
Hello, Thanks so much for watching. Absolutely not. The art grip are student grade pencils. The Magnus as you can see from the video are larger, more lightfast and softer artist grade pencils. The ArtGrip are had to find but when I do they run about $1 a pencil and are sold only packs. The Magnus are $4 each and are sold in sets as well as individually.

I don’t think the Faber Castell Magnus comes in more than a 24 set. I have just been made aware of the Magnus, but then I’m new to pencil colouring so that’s my excuse. I am searching for the tins but they are not easy to find even in Germany. I noticed they are on the Faber Castell site for single purchased. Will keep looking though. I’m used to painting wet on wet but I think the watercolour pencils would give more control. Other than that, I’ve been fierce in locating and purchasing pencils, just need to find a tin of Magnus. Thanks for the wonderful presentation….watching five years later.

Great review...I've been really intrigued with these pencils since seeing Sadie's review of them. I'm primarily interested in possibly using them to do quick but artsy watercolor wash backgrounds to colored pencil portraits.You mentioned some Strathmore paper products I've never tried out...so i'm wondering....do you know if those papers you used have the same consistency as Strathmore's toned tan or toned gray papers, because they are my absolute favorite papers. Faber-Castell's products are so impressive.
@ColoringKaria7 жыл бұрын
+RetreatSyndrome I have tried I think toned gray. I would have to get it out to see. And compare them. Can you remind me tomorrow here or on instagram and I'll take a picture comparing them or shoot a short video. I do really enjoy them for quick back grounds. I don't know what part of the world you live in but they are sold open stock. I would suggest getting a few individual pencils and see if you like them enough to get a set. I also suggest possibly getting the larger Magnus. Last thing is make sure you practice with these before you use them on a finished work. But if there is a learning curb it is not very big. I hope this helps.
@retreatsyndrome84787 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I noticed that you mentioned them being available in open stock...I live in Richmond Virginia but have never seen them in Michael's, A.C. Moore, Hobby Lobby or Plaza. I may go the online route and get a few to experiment with.Thanks for offering to put up a picture about it...I guess my main concern is whether or not the paper will wrinkle when the water dries...but like an airhead, I didn't think about maybe brushing some water onto a scrap piece and seeing what happens when it dries, lol

I have a question can I use this watercolored pencils like polychromos with out using water and did they have the same result without using water
@ColoringKaria5 жыл бұрын
You can. You just have to make sure to keep your work dry. You also can’t use solvents that you would use with dry pencils. They tend to be a little softer core than the dry pencils but it should totally work just the same.

What are water colour pencils
@Rachlovescooking6 жыл бұрын
I find you can’t really compare the albrecht durer watercolor pencils and the derwent because they are two different things. The derwent behave more like watercolors in that they will life the previous layer. The albrecht durers do not. They are most comparable with the derwent inktense pencils. That would be a better comparison because they behave the same. I think you would find you’d get a different result
@ColoringKaria6 жыл бұрын
I compared them to both. Some people said I shouldn’t compare them to the inktense (actually a LOT of people said that and were extremely aggressive and hostile about it 🤣). I *can* and have compared every brand of water soluble pencil I have reviewed with every other brand of watercolor soluble pencil I have reviewed. It’s not a system that everyone will love but it’s the best way to explain products to those who don’t have access to all the brands I have reviewed. I hope that helps.
@crealynn53025 жыл бұрын
Polychromos is an oil based pencil and will not dissolve with water. You can not compare it with a watercolor pencil. Just a tip.
@ColoringKaria5 жыл бұрын
Please watch the video. The reason I mention the Polychromos is that they are color indexed to the Albretch Dürer and they can be used together for multimedia. Being color indexed makes that much easier. Further some artists use watersoluble pencils dry because they tend to be softer (as is the case here) so if someone wants to move between the two or is used to the Polychromos and wants to try a watersoluble pencil this is a great choice because of that color indexing.
