This version of the Fantastic Four is pretty interesting storywise having read about it from start to finish, but they're all so messed because they're the "Ultimate" version of the team. -Reed Richards is a sociopathic super-nerd with a messiah complex who happens to be frustrated with the fact he could change the world for the better but no one trusts or like him because he's a sociopathic nerd with a taste for genocide. -Sue Storm is a barely functional aggro blonde with parental issues a mile wide that are made worse by the fact she ends up dating Reed which ends terribly and culminates in her mentally broken ass getting with rebound guy, Ben Grimm, because he's the only one who could possibly tolerate her unstable ass. -Johnny Storm is a temperamental misogynistic moron whose only redeeming features are his flame powers and the fact he can be somewhat emotionally insightful from time to time (but any empathetic moron can be that way). Plus he's way too eager to kill people in this version when it comes to his sister, most likely brought on by the fact that his sister is the only family he has left after Ultimatum. -Ben Grimm is a suicidal jock with body issues due to turning into a walking mass of orange rock and some rage issues here and there. He also turned out have killed Sue and Johnny's mom who was disguised as Dr. Doom during Ultimatum, which no one (not even Sue) wants to bring up anymore because they dismissed it as unimportant after Cataclysm. Pretty hypocritical considering they'll give Reed shit for killing his own folks, but won't give Ben a bad look for killing Sue and Johnny's. He's also Sue's rebound guy apparently, which repulses me even after Ben got the ability to turn back into his human form later on because of how out of the blue it was despite some tender moments here and there. Yeah, what part of these four doesn't sound messed up?

Honestly, I feel really sorry for Reed that his parents don't want anything to do with him, nor visiting nor worst... forgetting about him. I'd would expect that from people at school to neglect him, but his parents, that's on another level. I guess this is one of the reasons why Reed needs someone to be close with, someone who will help him with his experiments and someone who could listen his conversations about science while it sounds weird to a person with a limited genius intellect. ultimate fantastic four had a strong start with the first 3 arcs (the fantastic, doom, n-zone), but then went off the rails pretty quickly since later arcs felt out of place in the ultimate universe... the video-game tie in to the 2005 movie felt more in-line with the ultimate universe. i like the idea of giving victor powers, but he would have been better off with the powers that the movie gave him (living metal, lightning) instead of what he got (living metal, projectile quills and his organs turning into poison gas) ultimate doom starts off in rags and has goat-feet, but then they just kind of replaced him with something similar to the mainline universe doom with no explanation by the time of his next appearance

Teleporting to the negative zone origin is way more better than getting hit by a cosmic ray. This story is a lot more intense for the fantastic four. I feel so sorry for the Ben Grimm character a lot more than Bruce Banner/Hulk although I do like both.

Loved the Ultimate Universe right up until the end of the X-men war/start of the Cataclysm series. Death of Spider-man was by far the best reading in ages and by far the best FF comics since the Marvel Knights run.

To me the Ultimate comics are a line of a more "hyper realistic" universe. Where it's more of a question whether or not Thor was a God or just a human. That Venom isn't an alien, but just a human creation. When death literally means death. And to me in the Ultimate universe, the heroes are far less powerful than the original 616 universe because the premise is to be more relatable and give a more real feel to it. I liked it.. When it was just Spiderman because it worked beautifully!

I always thought the Ultimate line was a missed opportunity for Marvel. It was supposed to be a reboot of the Marvel universe, because of very lackluster sales and incredibly lackluster stories bogged down by decades of same. But (i think it was Civil War?) started selling like gangbusters and they made the decision to keep both universes (unversi?) because of the Ultimate X-Men and Spider-Man books, which were REALLY good. ...up to a point. Ultimate Spider-man, of course was killed off and replaced by...not Spider-Man, but I've expended my gripes about that heap of steaming BS. I have to admit the first two Ultimate books were fantastic, probably the best Avengers stories I've ever read, but the third was an absolute abomination. I really liked how unified all the Ultimate books were as opposed to the chaotic 616 universe iin which 3 different New York citiy battles can level New York in 3 different books completly independently of each other. I also liked the younger version of the Fantastic 4. It was fun and smart and despite being young, it lacked the angst of the 616 FF. And it also introduced the Marvel Zombie universe, so of course, awesome. I think the Ultimate universe is a great example of a great idea that was left to languish with a lack of support. A great could-have-been but which still had some truly great moments.

I just noticed a dog named Einstein was present during the failed experiment that gave everyone powers. Afterwords Einstein wasn't present in a single panel. Then In issue seven during a flash back of the incident. We see Human torch, Reed Richards stretching, the thing, invisible girl, Dr doom's mask AND Man-thing. Who ever that dog was became Ultimate Man-thing.

ultimate FF has so much continuity issues. You mention the scene where they mention the ultimates but in The ultimates, when Nick Fury and Pym are trying to establish a US gov team, its asked why not the FF? in ultimate team up series, which is pretty much spiderman meets other marvel characters, Parker meets an older FF team but we can consider this non canon. but then in Ultimate spiderman 68 Johnny storm goes to his school and the FF team is unknown. im pretty sure ive read a couple more references as well

You know what. This Ultimate Fantastic Four origins story kinda makes me excited to see the new F4 movie. Trank and the writers say they took inspiration from the ultimate series and spoke of the movie being almost horror like, which i got from this series. Plus the Ultimate F4 origins is way more interesting than the mainstream origins.
