the 12.7 smg is really great! I remember having a lot of fun with a anti material rifle and 12.7 smg build. Those 2 cover eachother perfectly.

As I learned from Zack and mike 12.7 mm is basically 50 BMG in diameter.

12.7 is .50 caliber yes but the 12.7 in FNV is probably 12.7x33RB (.50 ae) in context of the pistol and SMG or 12.7x42RB (.50 Beowulf) in context of the servivalist rifle. 12.7x99 is essentially .50bmg​@@newvegasadventures4173

Fun fact the M3 grease gun had a kit that you could change out the barrel bolt and magazine to use 9 mm and actually use the same magazines as an MP40

Correct me if I’m wrong here but wasn’t the Grease gun widely used by the French resistance during WW2? The idea here is that the resistance soldiers would take the German’s MP40’s loaded magazines after raiding them for the sake of self sustenance. Pretty neat gun lore

​@@todd2.08I'm pretty sure that the sten gun could use mp40 mags. One of the hardest parts of designing a new automatic weapon is the magazine. You can get all the innards right, it can be a smooth, well thought out machine. But if your mag is prone to feed issues, isn't very durable, becomes inconsistent on reloading (ie the m1 carbine mags were in theory reloadable but the springs were shitty so if you tried to reload them you're almost guaranteed to jam), the whole gun is fucked. That's why once a good mag design is made and adopted, everyone basically copies it. Suomi drums were copied, obv AK and AR15 mags are basically ubiquitous, Glock mags, etc. cause why spend the time trying to reinvent the wheel when a perfectly suitable mag already exists and you can just design your new gun to use that?😊

SMG's are some of my favourite weapson in FNV. Single hand carry, so it doesn't slow you down as much when running, and still have lots of stopping power. Also fairly light weight.

The AM180 (.22 SMG) has 165-177 rounds by default IRL, but has upwards of 275 round pan mags, so while not nearly as much, the in game variant still short changes you. Which does make sense, otherwise this gun would be comedically broken in gameplay if it behaved more like its IRL counterpart.

According to Josh Sawyer, this is actually why they call the guns stuff like ".22 SMG" instead of the actual model it's based off, because then they can change things for the sake of balance, without people pointing to the irl gun and saying "but it has to be exactly like this".

I really like these videos. I've been playing NV for a decade now, mostly on very hard hardcore and i never really experimented with alternate ammos and had a list of certain weapons I carry. Mostly because I never bothered to look up the stats lol. Just gives me an incentive to try more things out when I play. An off topic suggestion, but if you run out of things to make videos on in vanilla NV, you should consider doing some vids on mods. Things like just assorted mods is damn near a necessity for me now. I won't play NV without it unless I have too. New California and Frontier are like full on expansion packs with their own weapons and perks that would be cool for videos. Love the videos man. Thanks

Personally I prefer the assault carbine over any other automatic gun in this game. 24 rounds by default that do 13 damage unmodified with -10DT with the default ammo and you can buy ammo by the bucketful, AND use jury rigging to fix the gun AND use repair kits for this too. Also it only weighs 6 pounds AND only costs 20 AP for vats which can be reduced even further with perks. You can beat the entire game with nothing but this gun.

Personally i prefer the LMG over the Assault Carbine since 5mm rounds and 5.56mm rounds both count as small rifle ammo, meaning that you can break down huge quantities of dirt cheap 5mm to turn into 5.56 match load rounds due to shared primers. Assault Carbine however puts in a lot of work before reaching LMG wielding stages of the game.

I think the Silenced .22 SMG deserves B-tier. I say this for 3 reasons: 1. It being silent and having decent crit damage means that sneak attack crits are both easy to get (even in multiples with decent Sneak)...and because of how Sneak Attack Criticals work in FNV, that means that (with no modifiers) the Silenced .22 SMG goes from 10 damage to 60 on a sneak attack crit (10 base +20 bonus x2 bonus afterward for being a sneak) with no perks, or with the Better Criticals perk it goes to 80 (10 base + 30 all x2 for sneak). Building for pure stealth and crits obviously doesn't qualify as a general purpose thing, but having an opening shot (or shots...the hidden-to-caution thing doesn't always happen before a 2nd or even 3rd round has made contact if you open with a full salvo) at *80* damage is defeating a lot of DT by virtue of raw damage...all the more if you can hit 2-3 of those sneak criticals (If you can get 2 in against a Giant Radscorpion before they start looking for you, you are hitting 144 damage through that 18 DT...which is a guaranteed kill for some of them and a near kill for others). Oh...it also has the best damage per pound of ammo of all ranged weapons in Hardcore.
