I like having one artillery corps where I put 90% of artillery 8% of elete infantry and 2% of skirmishers or skirmish cavalry with stealth maxed out. This corps is the first to arrive at the battlefield. Artillery deals the damage, infantry takes good defense positions outside the range of hostile infantry holds the line preventing enemy attacks on artillery, skirmishers do the scouting. Second corps is mostly infantry with someone artillery and cavalry, the third corps is mostly cavalry to arrive ASAP to where they are needed most

11:15 What I tend to do with skirmisher cavalry is I use them as dismounted skirmishers or as back-line infantry support on defensive missions. They end up being quite effective against AI infantry assaults as they can usually dish out more volleys into the enemy than regular infantry and - in a pinch - can hold back a numerically superior force. The confederates also have some decent skirmishing rifles, especially the 1861 Enfield, which has fairly good range that can compete with standard infantry rifle ranges, but with a better reload rate. On a final note, I only make skirmisher brigades only for use as long-range sharpshooters. I’ll equip them with the Telescopic Whitworth rifles (or stranded Whitworths) and let them do damage from long range. That will usually be an easy 500-1000 kills per skirmisher unit as long as they keep firing at the enemy and receive regular resupply.

Towards the end you went into something I was curious about, that of using single type divisions as opposed to mixed divisions. Early on when I have only 1 or 2 divisions, I'll use mixed and then sometimes get stuck in that pattern of having 2-3 infantry brigades with 1 cavalry and 1 artillery, sometimes more depending on brigade limitations. I did have some success using similar to yours, with 4 infantry brigades and 1 artillery supporting them. But yeah, as the game goes on I'd love to have my army organization skill high enough to have divisions be flanks, like my hardened division in the center and two other divisions being left/right flanks. And then a separate cavalry division that can easily respond to emergencies like shoring up a wavering flank or helping to crush an enemy flank with a mounted melee charge, etc. That's why I find it hard to get away from mixed divisions though, because there could be a cavalry for each section of the line helping to assist or defend as needed. How do things work like you showed there with an entire cavalry division by itself? I know in real life the Union had an entire cavalry corps that also featured mobile batteries like 6-pounders for the dragoons that could dismount and make a stand or push as infantry, etc. I was thinking of using 1 melee cavalry in each infantry division for helping routs, while dragoons would be their own division like elite mobile infantry to rapidly respond or rapidly secure objectives, or even just scount flanks and then have everything needed to launch their own combat operation on their own behind the lines, etc.

With CSA, I personally prefer to make my corps the main level for full combined arms later on, with divisions acting as main maneuver blocks. Here's what I arrived at: 2x"light" infantry divisions: 4 infantry brigades, 1 artillery brigade, 1 skirmisher brigade with sharpshooter rifles 1x"heavy" infantry division: 4 infantry brigades, 2 artillery brigades 1xcorps support "division": 2 skirmisher cavalry, 1 melee cavalry, 3 artillery brigades - Infantry divisions normally act with 3 brigades on the frontline and the highest-experienced brigade in reserve, divisional artillery going right behind the front. If you don't have to replace at least a few gunners lsot from stray shots after a battle, your divisional arty wasn't close enough to the frontline. - Skirmishers get long-range rifles - Withworths for experienced ones, Hunter muskets for newbies; the Hunters can still do work providing flanking fire and harassing enemy artillery and small units. They can work together in a more independent fashion or support their division as needed; they also work great alongside detached skirmisher. - The "heavy" division optionally gets larger infantry brigades and M1842s or M1841 Mississippis (or Lorenz if I capture plenty) - these guys are the sledgehammer when I need to frontally headbutt through something, so they want less expensive guns and more men because they'll be suffering the worst losses. - Artillery-wise, the infantry divisions get close-in support guns (12/24-pounder howitzer or Napoleon) with the heavy division getting the biggest ones avaiable, while the corps artillery is where the 3-inch Ordnance and both sizes of Parrots go to act as a concentrated counterbattery/long-range harassment tool. - The cavalry is your quick reaction force for either emergencies or for being absolute opportunistic bastards in the enemies' rear. Two units of dismounted skirmisher cav can absolutely murder isolated artillery units, and the melee cav is a great emergency button if the skirmisher cav run into an actual infantry brigade and can mulch up routing enemy units and run down and capture supply trains.

I found if you want to have artillery in the beginning phase you might wanna put them with the infantry division. Sometimes you can not deploy them manually and then they might reinforce you from somewheres on the map where they are not useful or far away/separated.

very nice video! pls, explain how does the condition affects troops?
@pyayaXC
@pyayaXC 3 жыл бұрын
Number of answers to this question. The shortest I can provide is this: The condition stat will not seriously impact a unit until it reaches zero, and the rate at which the condition bar increases/decreases will depend on the unit's actions in battle (marching, melee, etc) and their stamina rating. 0% condition (exhausted) has serious status malices (movement speed, reload time, etc). If there is a minor malice for having a low condition% that is greater than 0%, then I am unaware of the affect and would personally consider it negligible. Arguments to the contrary are welcome since here I am out of my depth.

Good video, would like to ask about scaling costs with larger units. I notice that it seems that the more you replace the more it costs over time. For example, I had a 2,000-infantry brigade that lost some 1,600 soldiers at bloody Antietam. It would have cost me in excess of 80,000 to replace them, so I had to use Rookies to get them to 1,000 and then did what I could afford of veterans from there. It might also be due to the perk scaling too. A 1-star brigade costs $25 or therebouts for a single veteran, 2-star is around $36-38, and 3-star is $67 per veteran. But I've also filled a 1,000+ loss unit with rookies and still had to spend money, so I guess my question is, does the cost of recruits scale with the amount you buy at once?
@Destin65
@Destin65 2 жыл бұрын
I don't remember you mentioning it, so my apologies if you did and I missed it. But with cavalry you're also paying for horses as well as the weapon for the recruits. And that adds up really fast for large cavalry brigades. Not uncommon for a large cavalry to cost as much, or more, than a veteran infantry brigade.

@@Destin65 I would recommend a method I’ve been having success with. Try using a Roman Triplex where you have your large 2500 man units of poorly equipped recruits be a shield for your more advanced veterans. The meat shield works lol. I typically group at least one recruit unit per division. Then once it gains experience I stop replenishing it (since at least in vanilla anything over like 1850 men is losing effectiveness) until it drops to 1800 men. That way you keep your veterans alive longer in the rear and either use them to flank/break through lines for encirclements

Can you do serie ultimate general civil war with rebalance mod?
@AoEBros
@AoEBros 4 жыл бұрын
Funny you mention this - I absolutely am! I'll be doing a MG Legendary Let's Play as the Union with the J&P rebalance mod. I did a community survey to see if peeps wanted a UGCW Let's Play - overwhelming people said yes, but it was 65/35 CSA. I found another youtuber doing a MG Legendary with the rebalance mod as CSA, so I'm going to link his Let's Play to mine, and I'll do Union. That way people can see either CSA or Union. I try not to replicate what is already available by other youtubers!
