Use Chickens as compost turners, I did it with everyday access to the compost pile but you can do it once a month and pile it back up for those who are serious about seed killing when composting. Chickens usually eat all those weed seeds though so not killing them off with a hot compost didn't lead to massive weeds, just a few. Leghorns are the best for compost feeding, they can often produce an egg a day and spend very little time at the feeder if they have a compost pile to go through. Probably the most productive breed I have ever had because they not only produced eggs on very little feed they will completely turn a compost pile to find every bug and worm in it.

I love your videos! I designed my coop with qlot of your ideas from your old coop. It looks like you made it through with no losses but I wanted to share a story. When we moved our chicks in last year they were still too small to reach the roosts on their own and they slept on the floor for almost a week. Unfortunately they clustered against the chicken wire and a racoon was able to reach in and kill a couple birds, than take them through the wire peice by peice. We solved this by just putting a pile of branches and brush around the walls on the outside so racoon arms couldn't reach in, or at the very least would make enough noise to wake up the ground sleepers so they could avoid danger. It didn't happen to you, but a free solution that may be able to help your viewers in the future!

Got 5 of them under a brooder light right now in our bathroom tub! Can’t wait to experiment with sprouting seed, fermentation and IMOs. Will have the coup set up under our urban shady deck with a power outlet for supplemental heat etc🌈😃🤙

I want to get started with my garden and get chickens right now, but I'll be moving this fall halfway across the country. So it's just not feasible or responsible to get it all set up, especially since I'm moving from an extremely cold climate(north dakota) to a very warm climate (7a). I see the way the world is going, but my circumstances in life is just preventing me from getting set up to be more self sufficient, and it sucks. But this fall/winter I'll be going full speed into getting my garden set up for next year.

As I type this, six chicks (five weeks old) are in a brooder on the other side of the room, complaining. It's time to get them into the coop, but it has been raining like heck the last few days and we don't have the run fully fenced in yet. There are no older chickens, these are my first, but I feel a lot better about putting them outside even though the overnight temps are dropping into the 50's.

I'm in Illinois, down around the StL level. I only kept the three week chicks inside for three days or so before moving them outside. Have a basking lamp for warmth. Now I feel bad that I moved them so soon!!

Thanks for the tips. This is my first time raising chickens this year. They are 3 weeks old now, so they will be graduating to the coop soon. We got 3 inches of snow over night here in zone 5 Northwest PA. Hopefully the weather cooperates in the coming weeks.

I live in Oklahoma i have coyotes.. bobcats..fox and hawks so i can't free range my birds they have a nice Run..once they go into the coop at night i close the doors.. metal doors..

Well played man thankfully my neighbour has a bunch of chickens so I will have a reliable source to get some when it is the right time. Have you come up with any good ways to feed them without having to buy as much feed? I was thinking vermiculture could be a cool option with big worms.

Personally never had to train young ones to roost. They pick it up on their own before they start laying.

When free ranging there is enough space and choice so hopefully there isn't too much competition for resources, when they get bigger they will need a bigger coop so there are no fights over space at night.
