Thks for posting, seeing what other have done is a help. Just got a '72 F100 4x4 and doing a restomod on it. Keeping the frame and going with +05 superduty front axle (both have coil front suspension factory) w/coilovers. SD 10.5" rearend from a cab and chassis (both are 34" frames). Beefing up frame but using 1/2 ton spec'd springs for a soft ride. Got a 3.5EB and 10R80 out of a '18 F150 for the powertrain.

If you get a 69 grill to bolt up to 73 fenders, you need to post a vid. Grill contours are close but not close for the two body styles.

Just bought a right hand drive 1976 f250 4WD steel dash high boy, disc brake front diff , factory A/C and a good aftermarket powersteering set up. Rare beasts here in Australia. They came out in Australia only with a 300 ci Canadian 6 and 4speed. I will be throwing gearbox and motor off the back of the back of a boat LOL . I will be replacing it with a Ford Falcon(locally made) 4lt Barra turbo six and a matching 6R80 auto . (check the motors out they make great power) Being an Australian made motor parts are easy to find with the matching gearbox. Watching your build Matt is totally inspiring and what a great job you have done. What a fantastic workshop you have. Now while I wont be going to those degrees of re engineering the diffs and suspensions I will be refreshing all the wearable components and springs. Sadly to buy rare parts here from the US can be restrictive as the freight usually costs as much if not more than the parts themselves. Again thank you Matt for the content you take time to make and put up for others to enjoy and learn from. Love your High boy and other content. Thanks Tim

@@MattKubik1791 Hi Matt progressing with my build slowly here. There wasn't much info on how you mated the 6r80 to the np 205 transfer case what parts advance adaptors adaptor ? Is it just a bolt on other than just modifying for the shifter and where did you get it ? Thanks Tim
@MattKubik17913 жыл бұрын
@@tim8deb it’s an advance adaptors part number 50-3900. It was not direct bolt on but it’s close. I had to clearance it for the shift bars and one plug. I used my knee mill to do it. But could be done with a hack saw or other hand tools if you had too. It’s very apparent what needs to be clearanced when you try to put them together. I kinda started this you tube thing towards the end of that build so there is a ton of stuff I left out.

What was the advantage of using a highboy frame if you were going to convert the whole front end to a 3 link? I’m about to start a similar project and I’m wondering if it’d be better to convert my 2wd frame.
@MattKubik17913 жыл бұрын
Cody Noice well several reasons really. Although none are very critical. The 2wd frames have a big crossmember under the engine for the twin I beam set up. If you are building a 4wd with the factory hight the differential housing on the front axle will have limited travel before it hits this crossmember. The highboy frames don’t have this crossmember but instead have extra crossmember elsewhere. The highboy frames are also a lot Bigger and are similar in size to the f-350 frames so it’s a stronger frame all around. These issues are not a huge problem if you are doing a whole custom set up.

@@MattKubik1791 So if a guy didn't have 9 million bump side Fords laying around, (LOL) and wanted to convert a crew cab 2x4 to 4x4, it seems like this 3 link setup might be his easiest option? Would it be feasible to relocate the crossmember to a different area? Although prolly easiest is just give the truck a bit of a lift.
@MattKubik17912 жыл бұрын
@@woog74 easiest would be to get a kit from battle bourn brakes and use superduty axles. There are just so many ways to do it. Most require fabrication with exception to the battle bourn kit.

@ 12:45 - Why bolt the New Process 205 transfer case to a light duty Ford 6R80? Why not bolt the heavy duty NP 205 gear driven transfer case to a heavy duty Ford 6R140?
@MattKubik17913 жыл бұрын
There isn’t a controller out there to control the the 6r140. Plus the case is a lot bigger and my not have fit. The 6r80 is a strong trans and will holdup just fin for everything I’m going to do with this truck.

@@MattKubik1791 Although I prefer the Ford "Dent Side" trucks...definitely like your '67 Ford "Bump Side" with the 428 V8 under the hood. Nice that you used a Ford 2WD instead of a classic high boy for the build. Yeah, makes perfect sense to use the 6R80 for light duty use. I do not live in, near or anywhere close to Texas, but I have read Circle D Transmission in Houston has good experience in building strong 6R80 transmissions. You're correct, the 6R140 is probably too long for a regular cab configuration. The 6R140 most likely would work well in a 1967 - 1997 Ford OBS F250 / F350 OBS with a 5.9L Cummins conversion in a either a super cab long bed or crew cab short bed. BTW, I talked to a guy at Palm Beach Dyno (PBD) a few months back regarding the Ford 7.3L gas engine. He said Ford will be introducing transmission controllers for the 7.3L crate engines. In addition, PBD is working with an aftermarket company to develop adapters and controllers for various transmissions, including the 6R140 to use behind the Ford 7.3L gas engine. There are guys out there wanting to drop the 7.3L gas engine in Ford OBS trucks as well as older Super Duty trucks with tired 6.8L V10 engines and or convert from diesel to gas.

The original 67 - 72 had small running gear 44 sealed knuckle front drum the 60 rear had 1 1/16 course spline DANA 24 transfer case drive shafts were 1310 2 1/2 drive shafts eye broke ever part with out trying to hard 360 NP435 2 barrel- 74 went to NP 205 remote and the fake 60 front they called super 44 with bigger hubs but still JUNK 77 1/2 = 79 bolt up transfer case and 60 front the weak part was knuckle drag link would tear off and DANA made shure that part was no longer available. 1980 they went to the TTB garbage funny thing was to put a big bail of hay in the bed and front wheels were leaning so for out it was not drivable Dodge was the go to truck with still keeping the mono beam front . Ford by 1985 in 350 they brought back the straight 60 front with better knuckles with STEERING the into the long the tie rod they knew about the 79 ripping the king pin knuckle off bad weak design. The 250 got screwed over for 20 + years with TTB JUNK love the old builds but defiantly have to run Morden running gear. now with Aftermarket companies building much better axial to your specks it would probably be worth it to spend 15 k for much stronger everthing.
