Okay a couple GOLDEN things you missed. 1: On the Heater Sleeve (green bag), on the instructions its says "Lean on a rock or something".... literally. 2: That thing didn't heat up right because they release a very nice toxic cloud of steam and get VERY hot (actually boiling the water). The water has to touch all of the white chemical packet for this to work and needs to lean at a much lower angle. And yes, that is too much water. 3: Anyone who eats these often will tell you that these are NOWHERE CLOSE to the worst ones. Just stay away from Asian Style Beef Strips and Pork Sausage in Creamy Gravy. 4: Marines very commonly get the Army's left-overs, unused, or hand-me-downs. This ranges anywhere from gear to MREs. I have COUNTLESS times opened a pack of Skittles only to find a white and brown solid bar that had expired 8 or 9 years ago. And yes, I eat it anyway. Edit: 5: The sweet/metallic tastes comes from loads of preservatives. If you read the ingredients on any of them you will find out that most of that stuff sounds like it should be used in horse tranquilizers or something. Love the video! keep it up!
@eidodk6 жыл бұрын
c4yourself While i do agree that some of the metal taste comes from the preservatives, using "real" utensils like metal spoons and forks actually strengthen the taste. Never use metal utensils on metallic coated things.

So I'm not the only one that finds the casual, lax instruction to "Lean it up against a rock *or something.* " to be hilarious. To answer why they don't just use Chef Boyaredee; it's because the food in MREs is designed to have a shit ton of calories. A standard MRE has around 2000 calories. They're easy to eat and they will keep you going for a while. Just be careful about how much you eat. You will literally shit a brick.

The metallic taste in the meals is from the vitamins they fortify it with. They try to get a whole day of nutrients into one meal. These meals are designed to give you enough calories and vitamins for a whole day in case you only get a chance to eat once a day. These are not designed to be eaten every day for an extended period of time. They are for combat field use. Once you are not in a combat situation you would eat normally prepared food. MRE's will definitely stop you up if you eat them for a long time... Hence the reason they give you the laxative gum.
@missychelle336 жыл бұрын
scottcol23 so the military gets normal food when they are in like Iraq? They don’t just eat MREs every day? In my mind I worried about that and how they make sure they get ones they like. Like maybe they sign up to say which ones they want- but the military ply doesn’t care. Lol

I was having a look through Reddit threads today searching for more KZbin channels to binge, as I only have a couple I regularly watch. Most of the threads were about a year old and often carried the same suggestions. But I was so happy to finally find several new channels to watch, I had 10 new tabs open, subscribing for what seemed endlessly. Lessons from Screenplay, GCPgrey, to KaptainKristian. It had some of the most quality content I had ever seen, beyond even television production. But then I realized. Almost all of these channels hadn't uploaded in a _YEAR._ What had happened to all this great content?! And why did it seem like Rooster Teeth, GMM, and Primitive Technology were the only ones pumping out quality consistent content? Or pumping out any content whatsoever?! I never found an answer to this but it did make me realize. You guys are one of the most legendary channels on KZbin and I would even consider a pioneer in a decades time, seriously. People might not realize it, but your daily quality content not only throws wind to the saying "quality over quantity", but combines them as a motto of "why not both?". Cheers to one of the best channels, to 3 am, when I wrote this, and to anyone who will actually read this.

I liked the four episodes because not only is that crazy to do but the first episodes still kept their charm. I think people weren't fond of how spammy it seemed and also the lack of focus the other 3 videos had. So they were rightfully upset.

xTYx728 Chili mac was always a favorite of mine. I also liked the ravioli, meatballs and tomato sauce, and the maple sausage breakfast. Sure, that muffin sucked, but the sausage tasted great! But, you have to heat them to make them "good". Of course, I have never had a cold MRE that was even remotely tasty. The tuna is what it is, but I wouldn't call that good either, and I am a big fan and frequent maker of civilian tuna salad. I was always a big fan of the protein bars, gum, and candy moreso than most of the entrees.

« Au Gratin » just literally means cheese, the actual real word tho is « Gratiné », which means the meal has a layer of melted cheese on top of it, usually put on top of spaghettis, macaronis or other pastas.

gratin is what that means, au is basically “with” so if you were to see au jus on a steak menu it means it has a beef sauce.

Gratin (French pronunciation: [ɡʁatɛ̃]) is a widespread culinary technique in which an ingredient is topped with a browned crust, often using breadcrumbs, grated cheese, egg and / or butter. Gratin originated in French cuisine and is usually prepared in a shallow dish of some kind. Potatoes dauphinois with cheese is Potatoes Dauphinoise Au Gratin. The Au Gratin signifies cheese and breadcrumbs.

@@mermaidatlantica well I'm french (and an ex-chef) and there's no cheese in a gratin dauphinois , if you add cheese in it it's called a "gratin Savoyard" so "gratin" = not necessarily cheese or bread crumbs in it (for exemple a "cassoulet gratiné" contains bread crumbs but no cheese...)
